: Putting subwoofer and video cable behind the wall

Are there any concerns (re: code etc) with doing behind the wall cabling of this sort? I was thinking of using the leviton faceplates with quickport rca connectors.

My existing component and s-video cables are long enough for what I am planning, but unfortunately my subwoofer cable isn't. Has anyone tried to make a subwoofer cable from RG6 and coax to rca adapters?

I've heard of people being successful with making sub cables out of RG6 & RCA-type connectors.

I'd recommend that you simply run the cable "through" the faceplates rather than making several connections - less signal loss and the "look" should be pretty close, if you make the holes in the faceplate small enough.

I bought a 25' cable from Radio Shack, removed the baseboard, ran the cable and reapplied the baseboard.

Yes, yesterday I picked up a couple of F-Phono adapters from radio shack, and tried it out with an old run of rg59 I had lying around. The problem is the radio shack adapter is Male F - Female RCA. I had to add in 2 coax couplers and an rca patch cable at each end :P

I could use the radio shack adapters with a pair of rca patch cables if I terminated the coax run at a wall plate, but then there's a lot of connectors involved in the run.

I took a look on Johnny G's web site and couldn't find these things, so I sent him a PM. If he's got Female F - Male RCA adapters, then I'll use those and not terminate the coax at the wall plate.

Thanks all
Dave

57,

What is in the vase just to the left of your TV? Looks like a piggy bank filled with IOU's!

I have read that 4 conductor 14 g wire makes excellent speaker cable. You have to make sure you get a decent quality. The trick is to twist two conductors together and give them a good connector. You may want to compare the price against RG-6.

I just found the article:

Johnells - good article ... nice read, however in this case the poster was asking about subwoofer cable, ie, RCA connection specifically.

Yeah I guess you are right! The question about using RG-6 may apply though :P

Maybe you could substitute RCA for banana plug in the recipe? :-?

It's a wine "demijohn" that's filled with my match collection - over 1000 matches from Restaurants, Hotels I've visited.
