I'll just say... The editor doth protest too much, methinks.

Nothing we haven't read from them before. It's hard to argue with their points from my perspective but I'm sure if I were on the other side I'd find something to pick at...

The post they were commenting on was in deed full on misinformation. Someone that picks HD-DVD because they think Blu-Ray players are not compatible with their regular DVD's is truly an idiot in my book... Or that porn will decide the format war... come on...

I read that last night. Anybody who is picking a winner at this stage is really stretching it. That being said, It's normal for the BD side.

Actually, the points are fairly easy to pick apart. They are done so on a regular basis on the various internet forums, including this one.

However, despite that, they have declared a winner this early in the game, which seems ironically similar to statements made by the now missing-in-action Fox.

Indeed. Even the HD DVD supporters discredited it, however.

Wow. That's just bizarre. Bill Hunt had me completely onside with his analysis until he hit mid-stride (the yellow type bits) where he suddenly concluded HD DVD was dead in the water and had no business model.

Bookmark this article: if he's right, Blu-Ray will be a clear winner by the end of 2007, HD DVD on the ropes and about to go down for the count. If he's wrong, he'll be spectacularly wrong, and this document will make the rounds of Hollywood and industry insider cocktail parties for years to come.

It seems to me Bill Gates once said NO one would ever need more than 640KB RAM ....

So careful, Bill (Bill Hunt, not Gates): sometimes pigs DO fly! ;)

If that Harry guy said those things the rant highlighted, then he sounds like someone who simply chooses misrepresent things to support his argument.

I hate rants in general and this digital bits guy isn't doing the BD group any favours.

Greetings

For the record, Bill Gates never said that. It is an urban myth attributed to him ... but never came from him.

Sort of like "play it again, Sam" ... or "Beam me up Scotty."

Neither of those lines are actually in their respective films / TV shows.

Bill Hunt's article had some good points and made sense to me, however I'm completely neutral and don't care which format wins.

Hunt has always been fairly neutral and is almost always right.

Though I am not going out to buy a Blu ray machine just yet, I have now stopped buying HD DVD's the $400 bucks I have spent for the Xbox Plug in and 7 films so far is a worthy experiment.

I am also curious to see which way the Criterion collection jumps when they jump.

Both articles are silly rants. Hunt says he is not emotional or whatever ... seems like he is pretty riled up and emotional to me. I would probably pick at some of his points but I think it is fairly evident where what he says is just propaganda.

Articles like this certainly doesn't help either side. When I was deciding on which format to jump on side with I couldn't find very much good unbiased information. It was all silly rants like this saying "I'm right because ..."

Ultimately I decided on price and the fact that very few people I talked too trust one side to "deliver the goods". Ultimately I don't regret the decision I made even if the format I chose doesn't survive the war. How my player performs with my many various "archived" DVDs made me far more pleased with my purchse than I had expected to be.
