Telus today announced the availability of faster speeds on its wireless high speed EVDO network throughout Southern Ontario, Montreal and Winnipeg making it Canada's fastest coast-to-coast 3G wireless network. (http://www.digitalhome.ca/content/view/1859/1/)

Faster is good but to get it you will need new EVDO Rev A equipment which are more dollars!

And at $15/MB after your FOUR huge megabytes of monthly free downloads, it's great to see that a person can rack up bigger overage charges faster than ever!

Signed,
A former Motorola Q user who amassed $140 in overage charges in 17 days of only checking my email. That was the end of that!

Whoa that really stinks. Is that because you were on a low level plan or what?

I couldn't find this press release on the Telus corporate site. Their EVDO map doesn't show the announced changes.

Does anybody know if Windsor, ON is now humbled by EVDO access? (I reset my treo but it still displayed 1x access only.)

Yeah - it was one of the cheapest plans, but here's the thing: My $25/mo. (on top of the voice plan) provided 4MB free; for $40/mo., I think it got bumped up to a whopping 10MB. 100MB was like $100/mo. However, all of those pretty much useless. I think one day's use of DHC for me, even if it's run through a "optimized for mobile phones" site, is probably good for 10-20MB. And then a couple trips to espn.com; read a couple columns; etc.....fuggedaboudit! Maybe there's a better business plan out there, but for me, there was just nothing that was affordable and/or practicable.

How can Telus make that claim since they use Bell Mobility network in Ontario and eastwards?

Remember this?

Telus sues Bell over ad claims
Paul Luke, CanWest News Service; Vancouver Province
Published: Wednesday, March 21, 2007

VANCOUVER - Telus Corp. has asked the B.C. Supreme Court to put a gag around Bell Canada's claim it has the most powerful wireless network in Western Canada.

In its application for an injunction, Burnaby, B.C.-based Telus said Bell is making a misleading claim in print and online ads that its network is pre-eminent in terms of geographic coverage and network speed.

Far from having the most powerful geographic coverage, the Bell Mobility network is confined to "the most lucrative urban markets" - Vancouver, Victoria, Edmonton and Calgary, Telus said.

Telus loses court injunction bid
2007-04-18 21:51:00

VANCOUVER (CP) - Saying you're on the most powerful wireless network is not the same as saying you own it, says a B.C. Supreme Court judge.

Justice Arne Silverman released his reasons Thursday for a decision last month rejecting Telus Communications' bid for a court injunction against Bell Mobility Inc. over an ad claiming it operates on the most powerful network in western Canada.

Silverman declined to interfere over what he sees essentially as a piece of advertising "puffery."

I don't believe Rogers has a device which will support those HSPDA speeds.

I don't believe Rogers has a device which will support those HSPDA speeds.
the benefit of rogers is that any hsdpa compliant device can use their network, you dont have to buy the device from rogers
there are devices out there faster than the ones rogers has in their lineup all which is available to the consumer and the customer has a choice to buy it like that, unlike Bellus
