Hi,

I have one since the beginning. I'm a Apple Fan, so bought one to replace the Aging Xbox Media Center. First, the "stock" Apple TV is not very good because it only play stuff from iTunes. I suggest you go on wiki _dot_ awkwardtv _dot_ org to see all stuff you can do with it.

I opened it and upgrade the disk to a 120 Gb 2.5 inch IDE because my Apple TV is also my "backup" device for my digital Music (all in iTunes) and the 40 Gb was too small. After that, I add some "plugins" to add functionality. The one i found the more useful is the ATVFiles that let you play stuff not in the iTunes library. You can even map a Network drive and play stuff on you LAN. (It's what i do).

I plan to rip all my 600 DVD to MPEG4 files, store it on a NAS 1 TB box on my LAN and watch it on the Apple TV.

The interface is beautiful and simple. Downside would be to have to modify it to add simple functionnality. Also, great HDMI and Component output, picture is bright and black are nice from it.

I recommend it, unless you don't want to modify your new device (voiding warranty!)
