Because the modem has to be reset before it can download and use the new config file.
Yes but when they say to the users that it should all be automatic, don't they reboot the modems remotely or something?

No I just figure they mean that accounts will be upgraded automatically without you having to call in and request the upgrade.

Modem power cycled, no upgraded done yet.

If i call, i'll get the usual b* (hardware has not been upgraded on our end for your street sir!) thx rogers...

Can't wait for their next ... survey.

Oh and next time they call me to offer me a cellphone + plan, my answer is :

"when NB comes first for once, maybe just then you'll be the first cell provider on my list, until then, im happy buying from someone else"

Update : Rogers CSR says that even though it says so on their website, it still haven't been fully deployed in NB, their target date is 31st of July. (he didn't specify what year)

I called 2 weeks before june 21st deadline and the guy cycled my modem and went to extreme speeds right after. That's the problem with ROGERS: too many CSR's with too many different versions of truth.

And my problem with ROGERS is i only get the CSR who won't do anything and tell me the same story over and over and over ... lol

EDIT : I give up begging them to push the profile, etc. It's no use. Called 4 times and they couldnt fix it.

Best time to call ROGERS for us in the maritimes is around 8:30 in the am. Ask to speak with someone from Moncton. If they ask you why, tell them that its because they couldn't help you with the problem you have. Then they'll challenge you and you go for it....ask them to cycle your modem.

Rumor has it (This is from someone on the inside) that come December Rogers is gonna start ENFORCING caps on all their tier levels currently only Extreme Plus is enforced. I think Aliant is beginning to look alot more attractive. I don't mind taking a speed decrease with Aliant but it's all these restrictions with Rogers that's got me fed up and ready to jump ship. First they throttle bittorent and now Bandwidth caps, next they are gonna be telling us when we can use the internet and what for and then they will ban uploading altogether..

What amazes me is that on the brochure I got this week, they tell me that at extreme speeds, I can download a movie in about 12 minutes or something like it. How can I download all these movies with a bandwidth cap?

For the purists, I am of course being sarcastic. I buy many of my movies from Amazon.ca where I don't have any bandwidth caps or limits....except my credit card.

I think Aliant is beginning to look alot more attractive.

Reason i switched from Aliant to Rogers : their internet was weird.
Half the time i couldn't browse to websites like google, youtube, big sites like that, anytime of the day. Connection was going on and off all the time, etc.

As soon as i switched to Rogers the problem stopped. I never contacted Aliant with the problems, i called them twice for a particular problem they caused me, and i was threatened by the CSR. I promised myself to wait my 12 months contract and switch :(

For weirds reasons my torrents are 10-12x faster than they ever was on Aliant... And i never reach the cap and im not a light user.

I just wish we'd stop being the last one all the time :(

Edit : just checked where Trites rd is on google map. Im more inside downtown than there, i think im gonna try my luck tonight.

That is funny! I was thinking the very same thing on Wednesday when I got that flyer!!!

Personally, I believe that either Rogers will see a modest loss in subscribers or nothing at all will be charged. With Rogers being the only company aggressively on the verge of charging overage fees on bandwidth, they will either be the "thin edge of the wedge" or a one hit wonder for trying it.

I still have flashbacks to when NBTel was going to charge for overage even way back when Vibe was still launching around the province. The backlash from the consumers was so vicious that they totally abandoned the idea.

The REAL risk for Rogers is when it ticks off a customer that has all of their services and TAKES all of their services to Bell if and when they leave Rogers because of these overage charges.

You had those flyers in freddy? Do they advertise the new speeds? They better not start sending them to my postal code... A few months ago they sent flyers for a promo that wasnt arrived yet, even the customer support didn't know it was coming. (for digital tv). I even got a personnal letter adressed to me. They gave me the 'pick-all-specialty' for 3 months, free of charge (yeah to shut me up, i know..., not my fault they dont organize their service release better...).

They advertise all the speeds even Extreme Plus which I had no clue it even existed. :o
I just browsed the flyer but nothing in much detail. 2 or 3 years ago, I had received the infamous "You are in the top 1% users who uses more badwidth" letter. At the time, I was following the Mars Rover expedition on streaming NASA TV and upgrading my MAME roms and it went overboard. I haven't gone overboard since. I'm trying to be a nice guy and leave some bandwidth to my neighbours. ;)

I got over the limit nearly every month and it's mostly for legit reasons but I won't lie I download a few things of interest as well. The days of people using the internet for mostly browsing and checking emails are long gone and Rogers needs to realize this. To those who read this and say "Well I never exceed my limits, etc, etc"" That's fine but there are light users and your heavy users and we should all be free to use our connections for whatever we choose whether light use or not. That's what we are paying $44.00-$55.00 a month for which is overpriced I might add. Canada has the worst internet networks in the world IMO they seriously lag behind alot of European counties that get a 50000/30000 connection for around $30.00 a month with NO caps. If only Rogers would spend the money to upgrade their infrastructure there would be no need for continuous restrictions.

Well, when you start factoring in Youtube, podcasts and Video-podcasts, Rogers is in the stoneage for their mentality.

And here is one...

If folks like me and Dan are in the 1%, how much raw profit are the other 99% of the customers making Rogers?!?!?!

lol so true...

My usage is always going from 60 to 80 (gig) each month (if their bandwidth tool is not lying). And Kramer you're very right about European countries. For less than us, much much more bandwidth.

What i find very wrong, i tried WoW for a while, and the updates i believe are torrents? When it takes an hour to download a 2 megabyte update file... it's definitely not right for the customers.
