: Anyone in NB get the speed increase from Rogers?
Stefer 2007-06-19, 03:24 PM Yeah. The guy was probably clueless.
Can't complain too much has it's not the service that is really advertised yet. Yes it is very unfair that Rogers treat us that way, but anyway, as long as i get what is offered. Now if we dont have the new speed after it has been publicly announced, hell is gonna break loose...
I had digital vip, and i was still paying extra for some channels, now supposedly included with the vip package ( like national geographic) , i called and complained that i received like 10 flyers in the past month for that new feature and im still billed for those channels. They gave me every packages available for 3 months, so i can see "what i want to watch", then call back and tell the person what i want and if its included in digital vip, he will tell me then. It was mostly to shut me up...
I called after 4 months, and damn, they WERE included in digital vip. Ah well, got a freebie so can't complain much on that.
But if they advertise new speeds on the 21st and im still on the old speed, im going to call.
habskilla 2007-06-26, 02:23 PM Well, has anyone been upgraded without calling into the Customer support?
que3jxp 2007-06-26, 04:12 PM Haven't checked lately. Will do when I get home.
Stefer 2007-06-27, 01:19 PM Was gone for a few days... funerals... anyway, im back and no better speed. Rogers' website still says 6mbps. Late, as always.
Will unplug and replug after work to check it out.
Stefer 2007-07-02, 04:05 PM What the heck is this person talking about?
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,18602287
whats wav5 and whats the grandfathering thing?
No haven't got the new speed yet. I see their website is not showing the 7-8 mbps speeds yet (well not for my area, as now it asks for the damn postal code...)
que3jxp 2007-07-02, 05:31 PM I have no clue.
Otherwise, I have not seen the speed increase either...
habskilla 2007-07-03, 09:56 AM whats wav5 and whats the grandfathering thing?
wav5 is probably just a profile name for grandfathered accounts. There are(were) accounts that were grandfathered to the old price of 44.95. But with all the price increases lately, I don't think they're are any left.
Bottom line is, if you don't have the speed increase you're gonna have to call CSR and ask they to do it manually. When you call CSR you'll find out if there is anything in your profile stopping them from upgrading you.
Good luck!
Stefer 2007-07-04, 02:20 PM First time i called, guy put me on hold cause he didn't have any clue about the speed increases, when he came back he knew about it and then pushed the profile + made me reset my modem, which didn't solve anything, then he said my neighborhood was probably not ready.
2nd time the guy had NO clue whatsoever and asked around and they didn't know about any speed increase, made me reboot my modem and nothing changed.
Won't they actually ever do their job and upgrade NB like Ontario have been done?!
EDIT : I'll call after work and ask why did family in Ontario got upgraded, and it was suppose to be done here in june and i still don't have it. We're last again and like home phone, it will be a few months to a year later. Again.
Stefer 2007-07-04, 03:59 PM Up to my 3rd call :
Guy made me reset modem, pushed the profile again. Old speed. He ran a report on my street, says no modem has been updated yet, and that they probably didn't have the hardware upgraded on their end yet (to support the new speeds...). He said Ontario has just been completed, and that NB is in the works now. Said it should be done by the end of the month of july. But maybe before...
Translated from Rogers talk to plain english : you're in NB, it will be done between october 2007 and june 2008.
habskilla 2007-07-05, 12:33 PM Stefer, you got the dates wrong. It's July 2007 to August 20XX. It might get done this century.
SensualPoet 2007-07-05, 08:40 PM This is the quote right off the Rogers website tonight for a Toronto postal code, Express level:
http://www.shoprogers.com/store/cable/images/headers/label_ryhsi_speed.gif
Enjoy a fast service great for sharing photos and files online. Modem set-up of up to 5.0 Mbps download and 384 Kbps upload.
Although Rogers is apparently working through an speed increase, it's still not "official" so I don't see why there is such angst. If I look up the advertised speed for E1C 1K9 in Moncton (courtesy a random entry for Queen St and canadapost.ca) this is what I am told for Express level:
http://www.shoprogers.com/store/cable/images/headers/label_ryhsi_speed.gif

It seems Rogers NB is not getting anything less than is promised, or sold, elsewhere, is it?
If I surf over to Aliant.net, and plug in a telephone number of someone on Queen St in Moncton, the best I am offered is Ultra at 5 mbps -- and $54.95/mth without a contract. That's around $7/mth more than Rogers -- before any other discounts available.
If all the rumours are right, Rogers will move up to 7 mbps shortly, with no increase in cost; where will Aliant be?
Rogers is providing good value, better than the competition, and ongoing upgrades -- including something over $100 million as announced recently in NB alone -- plus expanding jobs in the Rogers Moncton call centre (not, as others do, moving Canadian jobs to India - Bell, and The Philipines - Telus).
I respect there is historic reason to support anger at feeling as if second fiddle; there is also no reason to rush to that conclusion when the public facts are different -- like the speed increase which, so far, remains "unofficial".
And Rogers continues to show deep, ongoing commitment to building out service and roots in the NB economy and a willingness to match and beat the major competitors at product enhancements.
habskilla 2007-07-05, 10:03 PM WOW, SensualPoet, you got it bad. The Rogers bug.
True or False. Internal Rogers memo and CSRs are telling/told customers in NB that by June 21 ALL upgrades would be done and EVERYBODY will be at the new speeds. Let me answer for you cause I don't want 15 pages of double speak, True. Have the new speeds arrived? Nope.
Question #2. True or False. NB has ALL the channels offered in Ontario? Again, I'll spare us the 15 pages of BS and answer that again for you. FALSE.
Question #3. (I love this one) Call to a Rogers's CSR about a DUAL tuner STB. No problem sir, we have a moto 8300, oh wait a second. You're in NB. I'm sorry but we won't have the unit available till next month. End of conversation. Oh I forgot to say that this phone call happened over 3 YEARS ago. Let's see, we must have a dual tuner now. Let me call up Rogers. Yes sir we have a moto 8300. Oh wait, you're in NB. I'm sorry sir but we don't have a unit available yet in NB. Click. The only thing that's changed in the past 3+ YEARS is CSRs are not saying it'll be available next month. So let me ask you this question. When will NB get a dual tuner STB? I'll let you answer this one. Cause the guys in the "corner room" and I will enjoy the 15 pages of BS.
Also, this has nothing to do with Aliant. This is not a comparison of services. So let's just stick to the topic at hand which is ONLY about one thing, who in NB has the new speed Rogers said EVERYONE was getting by June 21.
Oh yea, it's ok to answer question #3.
Stefer 2007-07-06, 08:04 PM CSRs are telling/told customers in NB that by June 21 ALL upgrades would be done and EVERYBODY will be at the new speeds.
thats what they told me first 2 times. last time (after June 21, in july), they told me it would be before end of june.
oh wait a second. You're in NB.
Yeah that's a classic one i get often for anything from them.
Stefer 2007-07-07, 09:58 AM EDIT : they told me it would be before end of june. i meant they told me it would be before end of july.
thats what happens when im tired...
habskilla 2007-07-16, 03:24 PM FWIW,
It's official now.
Using a Moncton Postal code, Rogers has updated their website with the new speeds.

que3jxp 2007-07-16, 03:57 PM But the more important question...
Has anyone GOT the speed bump.
que3jxp 2007-07-16, 04:11 PM Also, I know this is a bit off topic, but does anyone know how serious Rogers is in regards to enforcing the "limits"?
When TV season is in full swing, there is not a lot going on in my download universe but when late spring comes about, I am usually DLing series that I chose to not watch throughout the regular viewing season. This can, for a few months, result in EASILY going over the 60 GB mark.

Had it since a week before the 21st of June. If you still don't they are BSing you because NB IS ready for the new specs at the very least major cities.

I go over the limits every month and haven't seen a single extra charge on my bill.

Just checked. 5.8 mbits from speedcheck.rogers.com
...
they are very damn lucky that alliant suck....
the reps on the phone always told me it was automatic, many of you say they had to cycle the modem... how necessary is cycling the modem if it's automatic?
EDIT : I checked with my postal code, extreme is listed as 8 mbps too for my street.
Kramer 2007-07-17, 11:04 AM Because the modem has to be reset before it can download and use the new config file.
