Just wondering if this has been released in Canada, or if it's being held up by Alliance?

I own it. Of course, I ordered from Amazon.com

I have yet to see it in Canada... same goes for The Game.

I also own The Game. Buying from a Canadian retailer is pointless IMHO for numerous reasons.

Very true... for the most part amazon.com is the way to go.

Although I have found some pretty good deals from time to time from other online places. :)

I haven't bought a single HD-DVD online yet. If I can find it locally at a retailer I will buy there as I don't usually save much after exchange and shipping. I would much rather support local stores than foreign (even if those store are foreign owned)

I agree. I support a local Sunrise store which is wonderfully focussed on the movie lover. Failing that, I try the HMV nearby. Failing that, I try chapters.ca or amazon.ca. Failing that, I try amazon.com or ********. The weirder my tastes, the more likely I'll be casting my gaze stateside.

I have no problem buying out of country; I'd just rather spend the money locally in a bricks-and-mortar store I can browse and get instant gratification.

Having said that, I haven't bought any HD material at Sunrise 'cause they haven't figured out it exists. I did buy some silent films there by Chaplin and Garbo.

I love Sunrise for Classic movies. Picked up 4 DVDs from them today.

I bumped into someone a few weekends ago at the Yonge & Dundas location humming and hawing about buying a the Nicholas Ray 1957 Jesse James flick. He didn't. I wondered if it was you. ;)

Nope. I work in Toronto so you'll only see me their during the week.

I did see that flick on the shelf though.

I picked up the Fox War movies today.

They have lots of old movies for a great price.

LOL. I hoped it wasn't you. I imagine you're much cuter. ;)

Seriously, the chap had no idea why a Nicholas Ray movie would be worth checking out. Had to be a newbie, not a moderator!

The list of released hidef titles unavailable from ZIP that I posted in another thread (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=63025) seems to be pretty much a list of US-only releases, in case people are curious as to what other goodies are available only as imports.

It is curious that for regular DVDs, Amazon.ca regularly sells both the US import and domestic Canadian versions on the site (unlike, say, Indigo or Future Shop), but do not seem to be doing this for Blu-Ray and HD DVD import-only titles. Anyone know anything about the nitty-gritty of the DVD industry that might explain this? Given some of the specialty stuff they do import it can't be volume concerns, and if it were pressure from Canadian distributors it doesn't seem to be affecting their listing regular DVDs.

Well I ordered from Amazon.com instead of waiting for Alliance (or whatever Canadian distributor) to get it's act together. It shipped almost immediately.
