I have Rogers. Can I pay the $50 (or whatever) and get the fight in HD on PPV next Saturday?

I have yet to see a HD PPV fight offered in Canada, just SD.

A week after it airs it will be on HBO HD and probably TSN HD.

thanks. this sucks. I wouldn't mind paying the money and inviting some friends over.
when it's on a week later, is your guess that it will it be "real HD", or crappy upconverted SD?

TSN HD now shows real HD from HBO. This started this year.

Anyone know if this fight on PPV wil be presented in HD. The price that they charge for these fights, I expect it would at least be presented in HD. Thanks.

ExpressVu isn't doing much to promote this. The should have announced their exclusive in time for people to get new installs.

They are showing De La Hoya/Mayweather 24/7 (http://www.hbo.com/boxing/events/2007/247/index.html) on 350, but that's not HD. TSN has shown it in HD.

I'm not impressed with the $10 extra charge for HD, but some US providers are charging this too.

I use to watch boxing but I find it very boring compared to mma.

Is there a lot of people still watching boxing?

Well it's my favorite sport, I watch UFC and all but I much rather watch Boxing or kick boxing, I am not a fan of grappiling or however you spell it :)

It's the fight everyone is talking about. On May 5th the whole world will be watching. De La Hoya vs Mayweather: The World Awaits. May 5 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on HBO Pay-Per-View 9pm ET/6pm PT.

They are expecting 1.5-2 million PPV buys for De La Hoya - Mayweather. I'd say that's a lot. UFC has only once broken 1 million.

Q

you kidding?

if UFC has broken a million and the "best" fight ever is only bringing in 1.5 M??

Either way I just wanted to know if people still like watching boxing or not. I would surprised if it survived another 3 years on PPV.

Boxing won't have any problems surviving on PPV.

Mayweather was a pathetic winner, if you thought he won.

Lots of cameras were used:

HBO pulled out all the production stops for the event, using an unprecedented 19 cameras to cover the action, including a super-slow-mo camera that helped viewers capture the full impact of a power punch against the head of his opponent, according to HBO officials. A typical PPV event will utilize eight to 10 cameras.

Turns out the obituaries written for boxing were a bit premature. Oscar De La Hoya's fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. set a record for most televised buys for a fight, according to figures released Wednesday, surpassing Mike Tyson's second fight with Evander Holyfield and making it boxing's richest event.

A total of 2.15 million households paid $54.95 for the fight, generating revenue of $120 million. The previous record set by Tyson-Holyfield was 1.99 million buys. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070509/ap_en_tv/box_de_la_hoya_mayweather_ppv;_ylt=AlC6U_CDqEFWncfg1enQrnFpM hkF)
