Article:Kubuntu 7.04: Putting up a real fight against Windows Vista.
Kubuntu 7.04 is the real deal. The installation was easy and successful. In terms of usability, everything is there: KDE offers all of the necessary applications, and Kubuntu offers the integration. The performance is suitable. And unlike Windows Vista, Kubuntu 7.04 is a pleasure to use. So I’d suggest that you try it out.http://pinderkent.blogsavy.com/archives/69

I've been using 6.10 for a while now on my laptop and LOVE it, I had to install a few minor things using automatix and the regular manager prog. There is nothing on it that I have not been able to do that I did with windows and its FREE! Full office suit comes installed right away which was a bonus. Im going to tryout 7.04 this week and see whats changed. One thing that REALLY amazed me was with my dell laptop EVERYTHING worked after the install and I did not have to install any drivers what so ever. Even the front media buttons worked, xp takes some serious coaxing to get everything to work right.
I can definatly recommend ubuntu to try out for everyone!

I tried Ubuntu 6.10 recently on my laptop (running from a "live CD" or whatever the terminology is) to see what it might be like as an alternative to XP or Vista. On first impressions I was quite pleased but I soon realised there were serious problems with my Broadcom wireless adapter.
After a bit of research on the net I gave up as there is only very sketchy support at the moment it seems. There's an open source project trying to put together drivers but once I found it involved extracting firmware from the hardware to get the driver built and working it all started to look like far too much hard work. Unfortunately it's exactly the kind of thing I've expected from Linux and probably why I haven't put more effort into trying it out before now.
I realise it's just a small thing but it's enough to make me stick with XP for a little while longer. I'll try again once there are some stable working drivers either from Broadcom or someone else I think.

Operating System Showdown: Ubuntu Vs. Vista
By Brian Briggs
Other tech sites will bore you with in-depth "technical details" and performance specs in their product analysis. At BBspot we pull back from the boring benchmarks to compare the superficialities, and we do it all on a single page.http://www.bbspot.com/News/2007/04/ubuntu-vs-vista.html
