My download speed, as tested with Speedtest.net, is 6685 kbps.

My in house network speed via Linksys Powerline Bridge is over 10 Mbps (tests show 18-13 Mbps).

I have an HD-A1 HD DVD player with a dedicated Ethernet connection for downloads/uploads.

The player needs to have a download speed setting, should I set that to 6600 Kbps or to over 10 Mbps? Firmware updates are in the form of data but the normal downloads will be video.

Note: I updated the firmware of the HD-A1 over Ethernet and the download setting was 1.5 Mbps. After completion, the update created one problem in the way of capturing online video residual data, now on the player's HDD and which flashes for a second at the start of a playback.

I would set it to 100Mb. I dont really see the point of limiting it.

...you mean over 10 Mbps. So you say open to maximum speed and it will negotiate lower speeds as required, right?

By setting the DL speed what you are likely doing is setting the buffer size. The buffer setting will determine how much content to download before the player starts displaying the content. This will help to prevent choppy playback.

Given that you have great throughput then you could probably set it quite high. If the output is choppy then scale it back a bit until the playback is smooth. This, of course, is also website dependent on their throughput.
