: Component over VGA-like connector?

Hi!

One of my colleagues at work told me he was looking for a cable to connect his projector (Sanyo PLC-XU50) to a component source and said that the connector which was labelled component on the projector side was a VGA connector.

AFAIK the two signals are incompatible (a converter would be needed) so I would tend to think that the necessary cable probably has a weird pinout made specifically for this projector...

Can he just get any cable that has the right plugs or does he need a Sanyo-made cable?

Thank you very much for your help!

You can either buy a customized cable with component video/RCA ends on one side and a VGA end on the other. Length to suit. Don't buy Monster cables unless it is heavily discounted. Good performance, but way overpriced.

Infocus sells a component (female RCAx3) to VESA adapter (male 15pin) for their discontinued X1 and SP4800 front projectors. Part number is SP-VESA-ADPT. The cost was around $15.

You can order this cable from Monoprice online from the states. Or (if in Toronto) you can get it from Sayal electronics. Actually you can get it from a bunch of places in the city. I just bought 2 for my projector. They work great.

Yes, what his projector needs is exactly like the picture you posted mrhooie...

Are these cables standard?

Can he use the Infocus one with a Sanyo projector?

Thank you!

Yes, they are standard. I have actually made 2 for my own personal use.

tomauri is a canadian computer supplier. any smaller computer stores that deal with brands like Manhattan, Blue Diamond or IOGear should be able to or already do carry this product. They're worth about $19 for a 6 foot cable

Hi!

I just wanted to thank everybody for their help!

Once I told him what you told me (ie that these cables were standard and which one he could use) he ordered it (don't know where though) with a few others things he needed.

I had found one on NCIX which I could have ordered with the rest of the stuff I ordered last week but it wasn't gold plated so he wasn't much interested in it...

Thank you very much for your help!
