: resolution question

I'm sure this question has already been asked, however I can't find the answer. Here's the deal.

I have a Samsung LNS3251D which is 720P/1080i and 1366x768 is the native resolution obviously.

I also have a motorola 6416 PVR which will do 720P/1080i.

I'm using hdmi from the pvr to the tv. I'm running everything at 1080i.

My question is should I be setting everything on 720p instead since that is closer to the native resolution?

Does the HDMI port in the tv transmit at near 720p resolution?

I know HD channels are different in that some broadcast in 1080i and other in 720p, so probably the optimal thing would be to switch between those resolutions depending on which channel your on, correct?

Thanks a lot.

Many HDTVs, even those with 720P native format, seem to prefer a 1080i input, however, your TV failed the bobbing test. See post 18 of the following thread.

I would therefore suggest that you set the STB to 720P, although there's no harm in trying 1080i to see what your eyes say just for comparison.

We always recommend that people simply try both to see what they prefer.
