So its a really hard choice... basically is the Panasonic worth an extra $300?
I've had the opportunity to watch the toshiba for an extended amount of time and found it to be a very nice tv pq wise, however there are some issues with the blacks not showing up as good as I though they should. Everyone raves about the panny... but is it all that everyonw says it is? Right now BB and FS have both tvs on sale with the panny being moved to make way for the newer models....please help me decide!

AVSforum all bashing the Toshiba plasma since it well oem by some 3rd tier manufacturer called Orion which is well known to be bad in quality & reliability. Even friends that working from Toshiba told be to stay away from it. And he told me Toshiba already dropped the whole line of plasma for the up coming year. BTW, Toshiba has the best stretch mode for SD signal. I love the PQ on my Toshiba DLP a lot but hate the lamp keep blowing up! So I am shopping for a plasma now.

Take the Panasonic hands down well worth the $300 and then some.
If you don't believe me google any AV reviews and read for yourself or read up on any AV forums like this one!

I've lost all confidence with Toshiba. Not just their plasmas but most of their LCDs (except the higher end ones) are made by orion. On top of that they can't seem to make up their mind with anything.
A while back they were making LCOS rear projection (way before Sony and JVC) but they pulled out of that and went DLP. Then they were investing in SED and have pulled out from that. Now they are pulling out from plasma.
To top it all off, their DLPs are popping lamps like there is no tomorrow. Can't these guys do anything right anymore? There was a time when their CRT rear projection sets were amazing.

Well, Toshiba never really into Plasma, they just oem from Panny, LG and then now Orion. And even the lamp on Toshiba DLP is a dread but the PQ is truly outstanding, my 2 yr old 62HMX84 give way better PQ than the Sony SXRD XBR in SD and on par for HD & SD-DVD.
I just bought the same Panasonic TV from FS, and I couldn't be happier.
THIS is not even a debate...If it was 1000 more the panny is worth it...if it was a choice between toshiba or nothing...I would not be watching tv.

Go Panny. I got the Toshiba. After 11 months, I have to get it fixed. (some card inside was burning out or something). So its great again, but for how long? I am just glad the prices are down so much that if it craps out, a new one is a little more affordable than when I bought.

Okay from the sounds of this post I'm going to stay away from the Toshiba tv's. The price is mighty tempting, but not worth it considering how much rave I hear about the Panasonic's.
