bolmsted 2009-01-18, 12:04 AM I picked up the Matrix BluRay collection before Xmas at my local Zellers as it was $5 cheaper than FS/BB at the time. Anyway, on boxing day FS had the collection for $30 cheaper than anywhere else.
So I figured okay, I'll take it back to Zellers since I thought it was a 90 day policy on returns but it turns out "electronics" are 30 days and I wasn't told that especially before Xmas.
When I went to return it, it wasn't clearly opened or anything and with some arguing they agreed to let me return it but then when I get downstairs they tell me they are going to put it on a gift card.
I think to myself, great! So what the hell am I going to buy at Zellers for $100 as I typically don't buy that much at the store. The didn't have much BluRay selection but I picked 4 discs there but I still wasnt happy.
Anyway, I really wanted my money back. I didn't really consider these discs to be "electronics"; it's not like I was returning a DVD player open boxed 2-3 months later and expecting a refund.
I guess they were withing their rights but it was an honest mistake / miscommunication of their policy especially before Xmas. They told me they would allow me this one time but then when I get downstair they told me it had to go on a giftcard.
Anyway, fed up I went to another store and returned the other discs that I purchased and they gave me money back without any major hesitation. That store really didn't have a lot of selections either that I would honestly want to purchase at this point.
Perhaps it was just the local store wasn't willing to bend the rules a little bit but I'll think twice about purchasing bluray discs there.
jshel101 2009-01-19, 09:38 AM I returned a George Forman grill that my wife got for Christmas from at Zellers. I didn't have the receipt, but I had no problems returning it. they had to give me a HBC gift card, which I totally expected since I didn't have the receipt. This gift card is not too bad, you get to use it at The Bay, Home Outfitters, and Zellers. My wife was able to get some PS3 games that she really wanted.
caper_26 2010-05-25, 12:05 PM our local Zellers really sucks. The workers there are slow as molasses on a cold Canadian winter day. Also, they label everything wrong in the aisles, and "forget" to put sale prices in the computer. Example 1: towels are 50% off. You go the aisle and see the big sign. You take a towel from directly behind the sign, but it is not the one on sale...the ones on sale are wayyyyy down at the end...with no sign near them. Example 2: you finally find the ones on sale, go to the cashier, wait 20 minutes because they are slow as %&#@. They ring em in, only to scratch your head afterward wondering why the total seems a little high as you punch in your PIN. Afterward, you look at the receipt to notice that you were charged full price, and that the sale price "wasn't updated in the computer yet". you ask for a refund for the sale prices, and they "cant do that here" and direct to you customer service to wait in line to get a refund for the sale prices...This happens I would say 80% of the time, but of course I catch the errors by watching the monitor as they ring in, but if I have the kids and am rushing, I will mess up once in a while, and want to go postal !!!
karolinaCa 2011-10-03, 05:59 PM Seriously ? I would never buy anything in this store again .! Never .! I bought a bike and i went on it 2 times and the pedal is broken . So i went to that store and they told me that i had 31 days . Hahahaha that's not fair .! 31 days ?? It has to be a joke . Its a bike , not a t-shirt !!!!!
flaminghomer 2011-10-04, 09:15 AM Zellers is OK, but their selection and prices are nothing special. I've never had any particularly good or bad experiences with them. The one good thing I find is that they do move the checkout lines quickly (at least in the two locals stores I shop at). Unlike The Bay, where the longest part of my trip is always waiting in line to pay.
Can't wait for Target :)
Barry N 2011-10-04, 10:13 AM Target can't here fast enough. Hopefully they don't re-hire any Zellers employees or store management.
ogorek 2012-05-21, 06:42 AM Zellers Closing! I wonder why? I went to Zellers yesterday to check if they have any good deals left. Picked-up few items, but noticed that many on liquidation items are still higher priced.
Based on our local Zellers which we visited very rarely, in my opinion Zellers did not go out of business because of competition from Walmart, but because of poor management. Dreaded cash lineups, with one cash open out of four available, discourteous employees, handwritten on sale tags not removed when sale was over, shortage of on sale items, rain-check issued but nobody called to inform that the item was in stock, broken automatic doors that had to be pushed to open. Hopefully for Hudson's Bay Company, The Bay is not managed by the same team.
caper_26 2012-05-21, 10:22 AM and dont forget being charged full price for items that are on sale. Is zellers closing as a chain or just local ones here & there?
jshel101 2012-05-22, 09:26 AM Target bought Zellers, and turning them into Target stores, but this is very old news.
I also hate the fact that every Zeller store I used to go in was dirty and messy. They must have bad management in their stores. IMO, they could have competed with Walmart, if ran properly.
I have to concur with your comments. Very messy isles. Good thing they have barcode scanners. Pricing is hit or miss as is stock. Even front page flyers items are not stocked before a sale.
The best part of Zellers is their restaurant.
caper_26 2012-05-22, 12:21 PM the best milkshakes! I remember going there with my wife, and I had a huge hangover, and I got a shake. It was so good, I drank it through a straw without stopping, and promptly ordered another... :D
classicsat 2012-05-23, 09:06 AM Only some Zellers will become Target. A good number of them, but not all.
None of the ones in my region (midwest Ontario) are not on the Target list, so may remain Zellers, become another chain (is there any left?), independent, or close. The ones around here (Hanover and Goderich, at least), are rather empty, as far as people (both customers and staff) go, and seem a bit worse for wear. Both also have Wal-Marts in their communities, FWIW, and those are quite busy.
caper_26 2012-05-23, 12:45 PM Walmart is going in its place here in NS
