I am looking at a couple LCD Tv's that are around the 2k price, the Samsung LNS4692D and the Aquos LC42D62U. I am leaning more towards LCD over Plasma with a family full of boys with PS2 & XBOX gadgets. We are'nt HD afficienado's yet, but enjoy DVD's and of course are hooked up to Rogers Digital for SD.

The Aquos is a 42" but has the 1080p, which could be handy down the road but I am concerned about the 'hit and miss' being reported on the 'banding' issue. The Samsung gives me a little more screen for the buck and a couple other features.

Any advice with regard to either of these with regard to pic. quality, durability, SD viewing. Which would be a better choice ?

Thx JB

I chose a 50" over a 42" screen and man am I glad I did!:D
Both sets you mentioned are quality sets, can't go wrong with either, everything being equal I would grab the Sharp. BUT in this case 46" vs 42" its a no brainer for me, easy choice take the 46" Samsung!;) You'll be surprised 4" makes a big difference. There was an article I read somewhere that one of the biggest regrets of Plasma and LCD buyers is that they didn't go bigger!
I won't worry about 1080p, for a 42" size TV not much good unless your sitting pretty close. Good choice in your case taking LCD over plasma since you don't have to worry about burn in with your kids using it for gaming. Lets us know what you decide.

I have to disagree -- a little:-)

A larger screen with lower native resolution can be a problem down the road. Maybe not so much with SD (although even there I have my doubts), but certainly with HD programming, some higher-res games (e.g. if your boys upgrade their toys), and even with a good up-converting player. Also, the 1080p monitor should have a pretty good de-interlacer/scaler biult in, so even with a standard DVD player it may give you a better picture. If you do decide on that one, try your DVD player in both progressive (480p) and interlaced (480i) modes, to see which gives you a better picture (your monitor may do a better job at de-interlacing than the player).
