I'll forever remember the greatest year in all of music...1966, and especially that summer.

Everything was full speed ahead, with the British Invasion taking hold with the Beatles, Stones and the like...and North America fighting back with the Beach Boys' Good Vibrations and the Lovin' Spoonful's Summer in the City.

One more Oasis song -- Round Are Way. There's a shot of Ewan McGregor singing the wonderful chorus, all loud and happy and carefree in the movie A Life Less Ordinary. And then at the end of the movie, the original song plays over the credits. This song is SUCH a summer song.

cheers,

Well, i agree with Mexicanuck (In the summer Time - Mungo Jerry, Summertime Blues - Blue Cheer) and Chumley (Sunny Days - Lighthouse). I also remember Coconout- Harry Nillson and for the summer of 73 (for me anyway) July Morning - Uriah Heep. Interesting that this song is now part of an annual festival in Bulgaria (of all places).

There I was on a july morning
Looking for love
With the strength
Of a new day dawning
And the beautiful sun

In an effort to avoid, but not to exclude the obvious (songs that actually have "Summer" in the title like Hot Fun In The Summertime - Sly and the Family Stone, Summer Song - Chad and Jeremy, Summer Wind - Frank Sinatra, Here Comes The Summer - Undertones, The Other Side of Summer - Elvis Costello..... all great songs to a one !)

Some years ago I made a cd specifically for patio play during home BBQ's, tracks as follows:

Spill The Wine - Eric Burdon and War
Twilight - Rick Danko
Laugh, Laugh - Beau Brummels
Summer Rain - Johnny Rivers
Woman Trouble - Chris Spedding
All Day Music - War
Mais Que Nada - Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66
Metal Guru - T. Rex
Soul Coaxing (Ame Caline) - Raymond Lefevre (frequently played at my parent's house one memorable 60's summer)
Banana Republic - Boomtown Rats
Natural Mystic - Bob Marley and the Wailers
Lay Lady Lay - Bob Dylan
Close To Me (remix) - The Cure (from Galore !)
The Phoenix Love Theme - Brass Ring
Jackson - Nancy Sinatra
Midnight at the Oasis - Maria Muldaur
People Gotta Move - Gino Vanelli
Some Velvet Morning - Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazelwood
Alive Again - Trey Anastasio
Global Warning - Steel Pulse

In fact, if it clears up today I may just have to break this one out again. !

Well Audiofool now you have done it. I have to go out and buy some music. ;)
I cannot believe I don't have any Johnny Rivers in my collection or Steel Pulse or The Cure. This is an oversight that must be fixed. great great music

Your opening song, Spill the Wine (another song I don't have), and great psychadelic era song, has that narrative style that reminded me of the summer hit from 1971 Daddy Dewdrop's - Chick-a-Boom http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ti1gQCWCNrw

Thanks again for a great list

Great tunes!

The two that frame summer for me are from the Lovin' Spoonful.
1. Coconut Grove
2. Rain On the Roof

It's funny how this thread came up.

Just two weeks ago I cleared the ancient 4G mini and set the AAC to 112Kb/s and went through my oldies and other collection's cd's I've collected over the last 20+ years piled up 1340 songs into it along with a ton of Beatles etc.

Just hit shuffle and let 'er rip. :-)

And listening to Psychedelic Sunday in DAB just tops it off.

Now... bring on the warm weather... :)
