Paolo 2007-08-21, 08:03 PM You can also set up your box so that the LCD is blank when it is shut off - i.e. no time or channel number. IMHO that makes it pretty obvious when the power is off.
doesnt work with the new Scientific AtlantIC boxes which are 903 or some model number in that range...
i have one, i know. there is NO lcd readout on it, just a green DOT.

i have one, i know. there is NO lcd readout on it, just a green DOT.That's true but the post regarding not waiting long enough to determine whether the STB was shut off was by homer_j who said that he had a SA8300HD which definitely has a display.

Wayne 2007-08-22, 10:15 PM Buy a Harmony!I agree (I have 4 Harmonys) but you still have to hold it for a second to make sure that it shuts off all components.
wjburns 2007-09-05, 04:51 AM I downloaded the operating manual for what I believe is your remote. Is there a section similar to the following on page 21?
To Lock Volume Control To One Mode
(Global Volume Lock):
NOTE: The audio mode’s volume controls are active regardless of
Volume Lock settings. However, if you lock the volume controls to
the AUD mode, you will have control of the audio device’s volume
in all other modes (i.e.,AUX,DVD,TV, and CBL).
1. On the remote control, press and hold SETUP
until the last-selected device key blinks twice,
then release SETUP.
2. Enter 9 - 9 - 3.The last-selected device key
will blink twice.
3. Select a mode (e.g., TV) where you want to
globally lock the volume controls. The selected
device key will blink twice.
4. Now,when you press VOL+, VOL-, or MUTE,
the volume of the selected device (e.g., TV)
can be controlled regardless of mode.
Hey Paola,
I was having the same problem with a new Roger's remote.
My old one took the code no problem using the 9-9-3 code and following the instructions on the back of the remote.
The new one was being flakey, but I got it fixed thanks to 57's updated instructions.
The issue seems to be step #3.
The old remotes would except the "Setup" button to confirm the code, but with the new ones you have to push "CBL" or "TV" after you put in the code to enable/unlock volume control.
Also step one is confusing in the above procedure, so to reiterate:
1. push "CBL" (blink)
2. hold "setup" until the CBL button blinks twice
3. enter 9-9-3 (dbl blink)
4. press "CBL" ("TV" may work as well)
Had to register just to say, "Thank you 57!"

The above is a picture of the Remote Controll in question, its called an Atlas DVR (Day) on the MFGR's website. To Anser 57u's question, The TV mode is programmed with the appropriate TV Code (0053) for the Television set.
When I press the Power button on the Remote, the TV turns on automatically, then the S-T-B will power on moments after, as long as the remote is pointing in the direction of the TV. So yes, Master Power is already enabled or was by default and I'm keeping it this way. Just not sure why when pressing Volume Up/Down, the Remote will switch to cbl mode aright after the TV Vol command is sent and the cable light illumiates, I just want this shut off and tried all the combinations the manual stated including volume lock on/off and none of this worked.
Is it pissible to press volume up/down/mute and have just the TV mode button illumiate? is there another name for this which I do not know what its called?
I have the same remote as above in picture. Only problem is:
Mute doesn't work. I have done the code entering 991 and can turn TV on and off with that remote.
Also, how can I program the a, b and c keys? I wanna program C key for close caption, e.g. ?
TV = insignia, 1080 i, 20 inches.
Thanks!

I read that you had trouble getting this remote to properly control your Yamaha.
Did you find a way to do this?
Jason
One of the codes works for my Yamaha, but since my AVR has discrete on/off codes, it could only do one or the other. It's fine for changing the volume and will also change some inputs, not that I care since I only use it for volume.
The way to find the code is to try the various Yamaha codes until you can chnage the volume, not turn the unit on/off (the usual method)
rodenti 2007-10-22, 04:22 PM I am surprised that JP1 has only been mentioned in passing in this thread.
I bought a JP1.2 cable and reprogrammed all three of my Atlas DVR (day) remotes with codes that aren't available in the stock remote (ie. discrete on, off, and input switching for my TV) and I have also programmed in several macros that make life much easier. You should be able to program your remote to do anything mentioned in this thread.
In my opinion, this makes the Atlas 5 remotes as powerful as a Harmony remote at only the cost of a special cable. You can find all the details on http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/
One this that I should mention is that I bought the digital boxes that included my remotes... Roger's may not like it if you reprogramming a rented remote, although with the JP1.2 cable you can backup and restore the original programming if necessary.
AVRoe 2007-10-31, 12:00 AM One of the codes works for my Yamaha, but since my AVR has discrete on/off codes, it could only do one or the other. It's fine for changing the volume and will also change some inputs, not that I care since I only use it for volume.

With my old 4 button HDPVR remote, I could only turn off my Yamaha RXV-596 and control volume (and some inputs though I never used that from there either). I had it mapped to Aux key but was never able to find a code that would allow me to turn it on.
I bought a new HD PVR a few months back and that was the first time I saw the new 5 button remote, but have only recently moved it down to my main HT (started to get attached to a second PVR on the bedroom tv). So this past week, I did the swap and was reprogramming the new remote with new codes (which were different for tv and rcvr from the old remote). This time I used the Audio button (vs Aux), and the first Yamaha code I tried actually gave me discrete on/off and volume (nice) This new remote is still bulkier and doesn't fit the hand as well, but that takes some time.
I have a similar annoying issue with the tv volume key, and while it always ends up working, you just have to release and push again if you decide to only increase a few notches and then a bunch by holding down. You have a finite window in there or else it will blink the cbl light (until you release and push the vol down again). This will probably work out the habit I have of just tweaking the volume by a few notches and trying to settle on a round number (must be a disorder name for that). If I just push it once and hold down then it works fine, but not good for fine tuning 1 notch at a time, at least as quickly as I am used to.
MCIBUS 2007-11-02, 10:20 AM How do you get the "Music" button to work on the remote for a PVR remote?
Cribs 2007-12-08, 04:07 PM Help - I have Rogers 8300 HD PVR box with a 4 button remote, a Toshiba 32hl85 LCD TV and have tried everything mentioned in this thread. My issue is when I program the cable box remote to control the TVs volume, the remote will control the volume up, but when I try to lower the volume it actually changes the TV setting (Video 1, Video2, HDMI etc.) and lists either channel 3 or 10. I have spoken to Rogers and they couldn't help.
This week I was programming one of the 5 button remotes for my client and found that the volume would not properly control the TV, but would turn it on/off, etc. (This was just by programming in the TV code)
I then programmed the "master volume" (global) control so that no matter what button is pressed, the volume controls the TV. The volume then worked properly on the TV (Pioneer). I believe the code involved Setup 993, or something like that. The process is different for the 4 button remotes.
I have a Rogers HD-PVR (SA) 5 button.
I recently brought home a Samsung 50 " plasma (5054) and a Yamaha home theatre. I programmed the TV button to the Samsung, but I can not seem to program the AUD button to the Yamaha RX-V461 Home Theatre.
Without this button assigned, I need 2 remotes for basic functions (Rogers for channels and PVR functions, Yamaha for volume). I have tried unlockeing global volume, and resetting the remote entirley. The codes given by Rogers for all things Yamaha dont match, and the search function does not come up with any frequency to match the Yamaha.
Wiring schematic is:
PVR to Plasma via HDMI
PVR to Yamaha Receiver via fibre optic
Am I missing something basic? How could this remote not fit a standard Yamaha home theatre?
Otherwise, how can I control the volume? The TV volume only affects the small TV-attached speakers and the PVR volume (fixed or variable) doesnt affect the level coming through the Yamaha amp and speakers.
ARRRGGGHHHH!
Many of the HTiBs don't have programming in these remotes. Also, many Yamahas have discrete on/off codes, so the remote may be able to control volume (as mine does), but not control the on/off functionality of the AVR/HTiB. I got my Yamaha to work by trying the various codes, but on the volume control, not on/off, but no guarantees. You may want to consider a Harmony Remote.
So the potential solution is to try all Yamaha codes one by one, then try the volume +button...correct? Ill give it a whirl!
Got it...For a Yamaha HTiB RX-V461, you are correct Mr 57, there is no ON/OFF function...but code 0176 does control the volume through the AUD key.
Awesome...1 glitch down, a whole bunch more to figure out.
THANKS!
Kris81 2007-12-28, 08:23 PM Hello all, new here & found this forum by googling "how to fix volume on my rogers remote" lol
Does anyone know of a code, or how i could set my Rogers Remote (the 5 option remote) to *ONLY* Control the digital box & nothing else?
Right now when i press the power button it powers on/off the Television. I'd my universal remote control the tv/dvd/etc and this rogers remote to strictly control the hd pvr only
The operating manual (small white book) that comes with the remote tells you how to set the global volume and global power (sometimes called master volume/power) so that it'll only control the desired device(s). In your case the STB.
Please see the following: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=17719 post 5 for remote manuals if you don't have it.
Also, please see the following post and the links in it - useful for newbies.

beartoplay 2007-12-29, 06:44 PM Ok, here is a strange one. The remote will power on/off the new Westinghouse TV every OTHER time I push power. Any ideas? I have tried all of the codes for this TV.
