: i have scribbly lines at top of my hdtv screen

i have scribbly lines at top of my hdtv screen, my hdtv is the sharp aquos 46 inch and on certain programs the lines appear. like if im watching basketball no lines but if i go to another show then lines appear. to me it seems to just on certain programs but not sure. is that a cable company issue or a hdtv issue, please help im new to hdtv.

There can be white lines at the top of some channels - usually on 4:3 upconverted programmes - this is VBI information. This is partly due to the fact that newer HDTVs have less overscan, so the affiliates are not allowed to be as "sloppy" as before, however, the problem is typically because the affilate has not done proper upconversion of the 4:3 signal and the placement of the image is too low.

You should not be seeing this on true HD (16:9) material.
