I am trying to determine before buying if the 8300HD will send a component signal to a TV when the STB HDMI cable is connected to a VSX-1016TX receiver. I ask because this post (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showpost.php?p=510190&postcount=18) has me hopeful I can use this receiver instead of a switch. I need to know for this specific combination of equipment.

I guess nobody has this combination. :p Well I am about to try it out later this week. I just need a good HDMI cable and I will report back here my results.

I should clarify that both outputs will be connected at the same time but only one will be active.

Hey Jake I just wanted to let you know that I got it to work. :D Yes both HDMI and component output on the 8300HD are connected to the VSX-1016TXV. No external switches or extra cabling either. So right now I have my component out going to a PJ and the HDMI out going to an LCD. The receiver is able to pass both signals with no trouble. When selecting an HDMI input on the receiver I get the Copy Protection screen for about 5 seconds on the LCD then it automatically disappears. One funny thing happened. My PVR changed the audio to HDMI automatically. Once I switched it back to DD I had my 5.1 sound. Before that I was only getting what sounded like 2 channel audio.

Hey Jake, that's great. Just realize that you're lucky that both receiving devices play nice with the STB and will work with the formats you've selected and don't confuse the STB. If the formats need to be different, this can be a problem of course. Also, I believe some new firmware with Videotron meant that someone had some difficulty with a similar situation to yours. I don't know if you recall that thread a few weeks back.

I don't remember the thread. I will take a look in the videotron forum.

It has been sometime since I ran the setup wizard but I know I have 1080i, 720P and 480P enabled (widescreen). My PJ does not accept 480i over component so I had to disable that resolution (strange I know). As a result it sends 1080i when watching SD. I use passthrough. I will do some tweaking later this week. I noticed the receiver really boosted the brightness of the upconverted s-video (Explorer 2200). Upconverting is another nice feature I like on this rig along with the assignable inputs.
