FOX Sports will televise Super Bowl XXXVI in a new 16:9 digital format dubbed FOX Widescreen.

So who knows what "FOX WIDESCREEN" is?

Oh well, better than standard TV.

I wonder if ExpressVu will pick it up. If I were to guess, I'd say probably.

I'm betting that most people will be very impressed with the picture. It ain't HD, but it's the next best thing.

So is having an HDTV sufficient to get the "fox widescreen" or do you need an HDTV satellite receiver or set top box?

Yes, you'll still need the same kind of receiver you'd need to receive an HD broadcast. 480p is still part of the ATSC digital television standard.
