I have a NAD AV 716 tuner that was working perfectly well until yesterday. Now as soon as the sound is a bit louder it puts itself in a PROTECT mode and shuts down the volume. If I put the volume is very low it works fine.
Does anyone have an idea of what the problem can be and how I can fix it.
Thanks

Frayed speaker wires causing a short or the speaker itself can be the issue. Too bad we never got a response to the one with the (supposed) speaker problem - diagnosed by removing speakers...

It is not unusual for NAD AVRs to have amp failures. If you disconnect all your speakers, and the unit does not go into protect mode when you max the volume control; then you have an amp failure (ie assuming that you have no short circuits)

I had a 753 once whose surround amps failed but the front 2 were OK. It would go into protect mode when speakers were hooked to any of the surround outputs.

I unpluged all the speaker wires, reconnected them and now everything works fine.

I noticed that one of the banana plugs had lost its plactic cover therefore exposing the metal plug and maybe causing a short. I covered it with electric tape just in case.

Anyway, I cranked up the volume and everything worked.

Thanks for the help

Im having same problem with my Marantz sr5001 , it shutdown in protect mode when a loud seen occurs. If i have it at -10db it will go into protect mode always at a certain seen in a movie. But if i turn it down to -15db it will work ok . But i really like it LOUD so i was wondering if my receiver just can't handle it. I checked my wiring and everything fine. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but i don't have any banana plugs or anything like that but my connection do have a little bit of copper sticking out , None are touching but i just wondered it that could be a problem.

Sorry i am new at this , any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
