strange thing happened to some of my photos.

I have 2 pc's networked, one XP and one vista
(all my photos are on the XP machine)

Long story short I was editing some of the photos with the windows photo gallery in Vista a few days ago (not many thank goodness - only 8 or 12) and now they are not viewable on the XP pc or the Vista PC. They are there but I am unable to open or preview them . This only happened to one's that I edited.

I actually like that new windows photo gallery in vista for quick fixes like red eye -Anyone know a fix for this?

I actually am fortunate that I did not edit more pictures on vista, in the end I only lost 1 pic, the rest were still on my camera.

But I would like to continue to use vista for editing, but not if this is going to happen. That is why I was hoping there was something I can do to fix this compatibility issue (if that is what it is)

Were these Canon RAW files by any chance...

There is an issue with Canon RAW files that end in .TIF (which are limited to 1D & 1Ds cameras) on Windows Vista systems that do not have the Canon RAW codec. If a user adds metadata to one of these files, using the Windows Photo Gallery or the Windows Explorer, the file will be corrupted. I do have a Canon camera, and just double checked to make sure I did not have in raw format , as I thought I do not.

I don't trust any MS software, particularly WinVista. The only software that has caused me to lose major amounts of work due to software bugs is MS software. WinVista is so new that it is sure to have problems, especially with the DRM crap built into it. I am sticking to XP, using third party software and migrating to Linux. WinVista is a non-starter until at least SP1.
