I looked for a FAQ for this basic question, but was unable to find anything.

I am presently using a regular digital cable box with Shaw. Have upgraded to an HD capable TV, and I guess its time to get a new cable-box.

What are the various model options to buy. I am mainly looking for straight HD, without PVR.

You have two options. The Non-PVR HD box (DCT 6200) for $448 and the PVR (DCT 6416) for $748.
Big box stores do sell them for less. You can find them for cheaper on EBay, but they don't have a warranty.
