Hello.

New to the forum and am in the process of setting up a new Home Theatre for my new house in May. Looking for ideas and suggestions. Currently I have scheduled to get pre-wiring done for a 5.1 system with only an HDMI connection to run from the A/V Receiver to the TV. All inputs including Cable box will go into receiver. Will have a separate power outlet installed for TV and use a power bar with circuit protection for the Receiver and all other peripherals. Currently, I am looking to buy the Sharp 46"LCD (Sharp LC46D62U).

My Room is 11.8x19 (9 ft ceiling)
Budget is $3500 (TV)
$1500-1800 Receiver
$1200-1400 on Speakers
Looking to add a DVD Recorder and IPOD Cradle
Live in Canada

Besides being set on the TV, I am looking at the following A/V Receivers to do the job.

Denon AVR 2807. Does this have the ability to convert component signals to HDMI? Particularly to 1080p which is what the TV is?

Yamaha RXV 2700 7.1. Seems to have the above capability.

Key is that the receiver needs to be able to take the composite input and convert to HDMI. Can someone explain what is switching?

Speakers: Looking for wall mounting speakers including centre console. Currently looking at the KEF KHT2005B and the Klipsch Cinema 10.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated

Thx

Please put your location and service provider into your UserCP Profile (location). This often help us help you.

You may wish to be aware of the following "warning" regarding only one connection to the TV.

Since none of your sources are 1080P, then whether the AVR upconverts to 1080P or the TV does the final conversion may be immaterial.

Is this a room that is being built, or are you retro-fitting an existing room?
If you are building from scratch, I've just finished my basement HT build could offer some 'learnings' from that.

Brand new room, new house. Its being pre-wired by the builders sub contractor (no choice). Have asked them to prewire for 2 front speakers, 2 rear, 1 sub in the rear, 1 component cable on wall under TV (to be wall mounted), 1 HDMi (same area as component) and added a dedicated power outlet for TV with surge protection. Room is 11.8x 19.

I did the same, separate circuit for display... I put two outlets on that circuit. One for a rear projection/panel (on the viewing wall) and also took the circuit up to the opposite side of the room and put in an outlet on the ceiling (to install a front projector if desired).

Ran RG6 cable (to be used for video component) to the same two spots back to where the DVD/receiver equipment will be

I'm not sure what level of detail you can request as far as the framing is concerned, but if you intend to wall mount a display, its nice to have the centre of the display wall with two studs equidistant from that centre line.

Most of the things I would do differently are some esthetics/finishing items and some things that would make some DIY tasks easier. IE I put up two layers of drywall, and in retrospect, I would have put two studs up at the drywall butt ends... would have made the drywalling a little more forgiving.

But on the positive, I've passed all my building and electrical inspections (with complements from the inspectors!).

Can't offer advice on your audio equipment... I've got a HK235 and Athena auditions/sub. You are at a 'whole 'nother level above me.:)

Room size is slightly bigger than mine, I am at 16'w and 8' high... We are putting in 4 Palliser HT seats and I am happy with the 'feel' of the room.

Exciting stuff... hope it turns out well for you!
