How is it that a broadcast that`s covered in HD in the US, is in SD when covered here in Canada? It happened twice this week.
On Saturday, The Score was covering the Marquette-Georgetown game on ESPN, the broadcast was available on ESPN on HD, The Score covered it in SD.
Last Night, the Piston-Clippers game was available in HD on FSN, but Sportsnet showed the game in SD.
Last night Raps TV showed all 3 games from ESPN in HD. So why haven`t the other networks followed suit?

To put it mildly, thescore sucks. They show TNT Thursday in HD, and thats it. And even when its "HD", its zoomed, cropped, whatever for their stupid ticker to fit in. And sadly enough, thescore has the allstar game, and NCAA march madness.... not good for basketball fans.
Sportsnet occasionally shows NBA games in HD, I dont know why they dont always, maybe try emailing them.
Also so sad TSN is the only HD carrier for Raptors games. Raptors have actually gone backwards in HD coverage. go figure.

I have found The Score to be the worse at showing HD. Most of their games are stretched SD. Maybe it's time we send a message to MLSE to let them know that their games are being shown in a lower quality than that which is available.
This is always a matter of purchasing the HD rights. If they don't purchase the rights, they don't/can't show them. Discuss this with the broadcaster in question.
Sometimes another broadcaster may have purchased exclusive HD rights, which can preclude others from showing in HD.

We caught last Saturday’s Raptors/Pistons game in HD by accident. The Score HD was carrying it with an especially soft SD signal. We noticed that a local US station (NBC Detroit I think) was also carrying it. It turned out to be a really nice HD picture. Of course we had to listen to the Detroit play by play crew rather than the usual Raptors broadcasters (Chuck and Leo).
Broadcast rights not withstanding, I still find it frustrating that an ostensibly "HD" broadcaster can’t find a way to carry an HD signal when one is available.

While the Marquette-Georgetown game was carried on ESPN-HD, it was not produced in HD. It was an SD broadcast with the ESPN sidebars.

Keep in mind, thescore isn't really broadcasting in HD. There's a previous thread discussing the fact that they only broadcast WS, so the TNT Thursday games don't look nearly as good as they should.

One of the games the Score was broadcasting from TNT earlier this week was from an HD feed. Mind you, it was vertically compressed, to make way for the ticker.
Of course we had to listen to the Detroit play by play crew rather than the usual Raptors broadcasters (Chuck and Leo).
That was such a blessing. Watching Raptors games is a chore and hurts my national pride whenever godawful Chuck is involved. Brutal.
