I am looking for a firmware for my LG DVD-Recorder LRH-780. It has to be version 60223B_NT for North America. Does anyone have it or knows the site to download it?

Don't know, but my 780 has 60719A_NT installed, so 60223B is pretty dated.

I have a model 790 and noticed that when I set it to record a 2-houir program, the recorder shows that in SP mode a blank disk has 2 hours, 4 minutes available.

However, when I finalize the disk later, I only have 1 hour 59 minutes and change, with no remaining minutes showing. Once I had only 1 hour 54 minutes.

My older model 539 always records about 2 hours 4 minutes in SP mode.

So I contacted Tech Support and explained that the machine was not able to get 2 hours recording in SP mode on a blank DVD. I asked them if they had a firmware upgrade that would fix this problem.

In reply I received a short e-mail asking for an address to which they could send an upgrade disk.

Shortly thereafter I received a CD in the mail with no covering note and a black ink writing on the label side stating it for was a model 790.

I put it into the machine and it spun up, but nothing happened. I saw no on-screen notification of an upgrade and the behaviour of the machine is unaltered.

So you can get firmware upgrades directly from LG.

It is unclear, however, how they are installed. (My fear is that I may have to reformat the hard drive to install a firmware upgrade. That is the only part of the menus I did not use when trying to install the CD they sent me.)

Hmm, that's strange. When I dump files from the HDD to DVD on my 780, I get around 2h14m in SP mode. This is pretty much the same machine as the 790, with the notable exception that the 780 lacks upconverting.

read page 56, including my screwup lol, there is updated NTSC firmware for the LRH-780... Thanks to help from the people there I was able to get my 780 working again. if you still have that 790 cd, try following the steps needed to get the player to read the disc and recognize it's a firmware upgrade (this is assuming the menu system is the same for both models - they use the same manual so why not...).
