If I buy a used xbox 360 from someone off ebay, am I going to be able to use the 1 year warranty, if there's any left through Microsoft? Also, would i be able to purchase the extended warranty through Microsoft? Any help would be great.
Thanks

Considering the hassles trying to get a repair I have been through, and the number of flakey consoles around I would not even consider buying used.

Buy it at a store that has a good return policy and avoid all the headaches. In the end you will be farther ahead than trying to save a few $ IMHO.

From xbox.com:
This Limited Warranty applies to the original retail purchaser only and may not be assigned or transferred.

I agree with markl, that it would be very risky to buy used given the reliability problems with the console. My son bought one after Christmas and it was dead within 3 weeks.

Do you think i'd be able to get a pricematch for $399 from the Christmas/Boxing week sales on the Premium package from futureshop or Bestbuy?

Since the deal is long over, no.

If i had a copy of a receipt from the last 30 days?

Markl - you're one of the people that have been having a problem with Microsoft getting your 360 fixed, right? Did you have to send in your original receipt or a copy of it to get repair work done? Was this done through an extended warranty or from the original 1 year warranty with Microsoft?
Thanks

It was replaced by dealing with MS Canada directly. I could get no timely resolution from Xbox Support and I even had an extended warranty on the console that died.

They are not going to match a deal that is expired that I can see but you can try.

I've bought many Xbox360's from eBay.If you know how to use eBay "properly" and how to bid "correctly" you can get a steal. The most I've ever spent a 360 was $225, the least was $98. I've bought at least 10 over the past year and never had a problem with any of them. As long as you know what your doing I would see no problem with it.

Considering I have seen 3 dead within months/days of a new in store purchase you will be down to hit or miss luck if you go used. You might get lucky and you might not. Too many new units dieing IMHO to rsik going used.

Well for the low price that they can be found for and if you know how to look its not much of a risk.

So how exactly do you "look" and know for a fact what you are buying will not go bad considering new in the box consoles can die? The console can be in perfect condition at purchase and dead the next. Mine went from 0 issues to dead with no warning at all, lightly used, well maintained.

It all comes down to hit or miss luck. Having had a new console die I will stick with one I can return and has a warranty is all. They are not reliable enough IMHO to risk buying used.

If you can get one cheap enough it might be worth it, but there is a good chance that the current owner has seen early warning signs of a hardware failure.

Honestly for the small amt of cash you'll save, just get a new one from Futureshop. Look for a bundle offer or something.

My XBOX 360 was bought used, and it is currently at M$ for warranty repair.

I called support and changed the registration to my name, said it wasn't working and the rep proceeded to create a service request under warranty.
