My son (an adult) has played just about every console out there over the years and now that he's thinking of buying a new XBox 360 or PS3 we'd like to get opinions on what is the most difficult game for each platform. He prefers first-person action games and not the driving ones.

I've watched him play the Halo versions in amazement, but now he's getting bored of it.

So, most difficult XBox 360 game? Most difficult PS3 game?

From what I have heard, Gears of War on the hardest setting is insanely hard.

If you're thinking of buying in the near future, the 360 is hand's down the machine to get. Lots of games to choose from.

Gears on insane is damn hard IMO... strategy truly comes into play on the insane level.

Call of Duty 3 on the hardest difficulty is pretty challenging as well.

Yes, I'd have to say COD (2&3) on veteran is much harder than GoW on Insane. Plus, the campaigns are longer. Are we talking single player or multiplayer? MS tends to be the better platform for online multiplayer (XBOX live), giving most FPSs a longer lifespan...

Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox was very hard on the hardest difficulty however this is not a FPS.

of all the games i've played, Devil May Cry is the hardest (even in Normal mode, however not first-person).

i don't get the same satisfaction on first person shooters because i don't see my character butchering the enemy.
