yeah but that's what we are here for... constructive arguing :)

as for as the search engine stuff goes... you gotta admit... HD DVD is a much better name for ppl looking for "high definition" dvds... they got the name advantage...

but i agree... until HD DVD gets more titles out, and I mean good titles, i will be nervous... i will likely get a BR player as well since Kill Bill is coming on BR... damn it!

I do like the future of HD DVD on every front but the overall number of good titles available... they got the name, the porn, some good movies, great value, will be in most popular laptops/PCs with HDMI out...

The more I think about it, the more I think HD DVD has it made except for the studios... if all studios did the dual format thing there would be no question about who would prevail... kind of blows my mind that studios would pick a very expensive side and ignore the other! But hey it's early!

Just read this at the Digital Bits: Vivid has confirmed with VideoBusiness.com that "Debbie Does Dallas - Again" will be released on BOTH HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc format on 3/28 (SRP $39.95 US each).

Guess they're both going for it. Just thought I'd mention it.

cheers,

Wow! That is an interesting read in deed. I would have loved to see an interview with someone from the BD camp to get both sides of the story. I absolutely don't care about porn but to me Sony seems to be incredibly shortsighted in trying to limit it going to BD.

They are lucky that now is a very different situation then back in the 80's when porn was a major factor in tipping the war in favor of VHS because there was such a strong demand for people to enjoy porn in the comfort of their own homes. It simply didn't exist back then...

IMHO I doubt the demand for HD porn is as strong as getting in-home porn was back in the 80's so I doubt it will be a determining factor in the HD format war, however it amazes me how a company like Sony doesn't learn from past errors. The fact that this time they are not alone with their format may help but they better wake up and smell the coffee because its little things like this adding up that may just spell the end of their format (and the one I incidentally picked! :().

maybe sony's next move is to wave a white flag.... sony believing porn isnt "mainstream" enough to worry about is exactly why they lost to VHS...

anyways.. carry on.

I think Sony is underestimating the appeal of adult material in HD. The adult industry is very tech savvy and will probably find cutting edge ways to use the interactive abilities of HD-DVD. That could be a significant driver of HD format sales.

I agree that Sony is underestimating HD porn but I also think that they will eventually turn around and remove whatever barriers they have put in front of porn to make content available on BD. This time they are not alone and there are multiple partners that want to see the format succeed and they will undoubtedly put pressure on Sony.

Where I still have my doubts is the potential effect of porn on the HD format war. It's just not the same as beta vs. VHS. Back in those days there was a huge driver for porn, they wanted to get into the house where they have never been before and incidentally the customer wanted that too. Now they are there in multiple ways including VHS, DVD and the Internet.

Is the desire for HD porn as strong as the desire was for watching porn in the privacy of your own home back int he 80's? I have my doubts... But of course this is all about speculation... ;)

And sorry for being slightly off-topic...

This is going to go on for a longgggggggg time... I think both sides have enough in their favor to live on for quite awhile.

Now if the BR only studio's start making both or vice versa, then watch out...

PS I have pre-ordered an adult hd dvd lol

I noticed that TMN is carrying adult movies on their new MORE HD channel. Typically, they have only carried it on their 'Excess' feed, but I guess for HD they are using 'More'

I think the era of buying adult material on media in a sleazy shop with covered windows and neon signs is over. Now that you can get fresh material on cable without paying PPV charges, the whole porn+HDDVD versus BD is a dead argument.

Why would anybody shell out $25/title when, for $20/month, you can get several titles per month?

There is an article at dvdfile.com called " Will Adult Entertainment Decide the Format War"? There is also a review of the adult film "Island Fever 3" in both sd and hd versions. He can't see any improvement in the hd version over the sd.

"The adult film industry is unlikely to be worth as much as it claims—and the Internet that made porn so pervasive is driving a sales slump."

First Report: High Definition Porn

As some of you are well aware, the reviewers at DVD Talk have been on the cutting, perhaps bleeding, edge of technology for years in order to keep you up to date on the latest advances in the wide world of DVD technology. Currently, there are no other websites providing as in depth coverage of HD DVD and Blu-Ray releases as our staff, thanks to our philosophy that you have a right to hear about it all. Our latest leap into the world of high definition includes a look at the first two porn titles released in the HD DVD format, Camp Cuddly Pines Powertool Massacre HD and Island Fever 3 HD. The industry has been abuzz with stories supporting both sides of the high definition format war, with the general consensus that the Blu-Ray camp has shunned the adult entertainment industry; even preventing an early supporter, Digital Playground, that it wasn't welcome. The spin doctors are hard at work marginalizing the plethora of press releases bandied about but ultimately the stakes were raised at least a little bit by the move. You will not find reviews for these two titles on most mainstream movie websites but we cover it all as in depth as needed to give you the information to help find the best porn available and we were not about to let an equipment barrier stop us this time.
Camp Cuddly Pines Powertool Massacre HD was the first HD DVD title released on the market, with Wicked Pictures teaming up with Image in order to pull out all stops. The result is a superior looking title of one of our favorite award winning features, a horror spoof by talented director Jonathan Morgan that offers some of the best extras available on the four disc set to go with the great cast, the heated sex, and the kind of care that stands out even today as standing head and shoulders above the thousands of porn titles released since the original version came out back in 2005. Mastered in 720p, this version loses the grain and video noise inherent in the original to provide an even better experience; one that has been universally praised as a quantum leap forward for the porn market. If this is what the industry can do with the first title in the brand new format, imagine how great titles taking full advantage of high definition will be in the next few years.

On the other hand is a title using footage shot even longer ago called Island Fever 3 HD. Starring fan favorites like Jesse Jane, Devon, and Tera Patrick, this is one of the classic examples of pretty porn that still sells incredibly well even years later. The first release included a high definition disc that would play only on computers and served to usher in high definition for porn, albeit a limited version for fans to enjoy. The action was stylish and shot in the tropical isles of Bora Bora & Tahiti, with the trio of hotties providing the kind of ambiance that many women and couples appreciate, losing the bad acting most features offer up. The improvements of HD DVD were not as prominent in this title but even some of the most difficult people to please have admitted that it was a step up in terms of visual and audio quality. Once again, read the full reviews but expect the learning curve the companies are going through to quickly allow them to give fans a reason to upgrade to a porn friendly format. On a side note, a rival company has announced that it will release a Blu-Ray title next month but many in the industry have their doubts given the cold shoulder given to the first two industry heavyweights that tried to do likewise.

Great... Just what we need to convince Joe Sixpack. A bunch of DVD geeks praising the reduced grain and video noise of HD-DVD porn. I'm sure they'll be running to the store to pick their players up. ;)

A quantum leap, gimme a break. Imagine how much makeup and/or post processing they will need to hide the "defects" of all those naked bodies.

I can't wait for my copy of "Debbie Does Dallas... Again" to come into the mail regardless, can't blame a guy for being curious. ;)

If you have and noticed all those "defects", what equipment were you watching it on?

I think he means by "defects" that in HD you could see fat on a model's body, skin rash, stuff like that. At least that's what I think he means.

Ha ha, maybe the unintended consequence of HD adult movies is that people will see through the airbrushing and cosmetic surgery and come to the conclusion that maybe their time would be better spent working on a real relationship instead of playing with themselves in front of a television.
