I know Beckham isn't going to be playing for chicago, and I probably know a lot about World football than you do. Anywa....I was refering to the crowd violence at the BMO field.

Get in now?

Violence?? I watched the game on TV, and there didn't appear to be any violence off the field, nor did they mention anything, nor did I see any mention in the papers afterwards.

They did have a lot of fans throwing the give-away seat cushions onto the field, especially after the first goal. Though this didn't seem to be violent from the media reports Many of the players thought they were big Frisbees. Even though some of the seat cushions struck them, the Toronto players didn't seem to mind. After the team's second home game, they continued to praise the atmosphere created by the fans and how it can work in their favour. (http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20070513.torfc14/GSStory/GlobeSportsSoccer/home)Apparently one of the cushions hit Mo Johnson, but he laughed it off: One of the cushions hit the coach late in the game. Despite that, he continued to praise the fans. There's a reason that they don't tend to give away things like this before the game. They'd have known full well what would happen - and seemed to endorse it after the fact.

So I'm not sure what the violence comment is about. Was there something else going on that I missed?

... and I probably know a lot about World football than you do. And I really don't know what that comment is about either - no one is discussing World football. This thread is about Toronto FC. I'm unsure why the rudeness - I was simply trying to understand the Beckham comment (and I'm still not sure the link between Beckham and violence - perhaps you can elaborate with your extensive comprehension of foreign football.

Don't worry about Becks, he is out of the England squad for good ...With Toronto FC severely impacted by the number of players gone for international play (9 or so by my count), I couldn't help being reminded of this unfortunate post! Beckham is set to start for England in today's match versus Brazil.

Yeah - crappy game, but they have too many injuries and not enough depth.. The joys of being an expansion team I guess.

The irony is that througout much of this non-winning streak and scoreless streak, TFC has been playing some relatively good football. They outshot their opponents significantly during a couple of the games, and they played very well against some good teams - but only for the first half.

Biggest issue seems to be no depth. Great starting line-up - but nothing left when they get injured. But it all bodes well for the future. Apparently they got a 96% retention of season ticket holders - and with the waiting list they have, it will take about 5 years to actually get a season ticket at this rate. So the fans seem happy. (but hey, this is Toronto - fans still flock to the ACC, even after a 40-year drought, and pay the craziest prices for tickets).

Perhaps the best thing to see last night was the picture. It was in HD on The Score (shame about the ticker). And the previous game was widescreen on CBC! It would be nice to be able to consistently see a HD picture (particularily on The Score - whose picture has been so poor at times, I've had a hard time figuring out which team a player was on!
