Ok, I changed it to 1024 x 768, put characters at "Largest" in "View" and that works for me. I expect it'll work for my wife as well (she will get a full page for Yahoo)... I won't tell here!

I find 1024 x 768 better... crispier, as someone said. This compared to 800 x 600, of course.

Thanks guys for your guidance. At this point, the 22" LCD widescreen is a keeper.

I bought a 20" WS last weekend and love it. I was thinking about upgrading my 17" CRT so I dropped by Future Shop for the friends and family sale.

Got LG L204WT. It's a little wierd if you maximize a window like your browser but basically now I don't have to maximize anymore.

Only downside with the LG is they don't supply a DVI cable with the monitor. I'll pick one up at Monoprice ... they're pretty cheap.

Now, I know why...

I bought an Acer AL2216W 22" Wide Screen ($299.99 at FS this week).

It's quite a change from the 17" Acer I'm used to.

The real estate gain is astounding.

Out of the box it was a bit bright and needed some tweeking, but wow. The hardest part was finding a suitable picture to use for the desktop.

Reviews grump about the flimsy stand which isn't a problem for me. I have a rock solid desk.

Now I have to learn to multi-task :).

It looks stunning at 1680 X 1050. Thank God the AIW 9800 Pro card I bought a year ago supports it. (It sure helps to have a wireless mouse).

I recently got a 24" 1920x1200 at work. I often need to compare maps in 2 browser windows, side by each. Switching between 2 browsers on top of each other was a pain, and slowed me down. I hope to get one at home soon.

I may be moving in the near future, so all big purchases (new monitor, and especially HDTV) are temporarily on hold. I don't want to trundle a 42" LCD to my new place... and then find that a 52" unit is more appropriate in the new place ;)

In case you're wondering where to get wallpaper for that new 1680 x 1050 monitor. This one has lots of options. I grabbed a few that caught my interest. I started looking for this because now that I have a new monitor the 1024 x 768 pics don't fit quite as good. :(

One of the best collection of Widescreen Wallpapers can be had from Hamad Darwish' site (he is a Flickr Photoghrapher that contributed to some images for Vista's backgrounds) for free (30+ MB for the whole set): http://www.hamaddarwish.com/

The download links are at the bottom of the page.

I found that a 1900x1200 screen was still too small to display two windows properly side-by-side. You're only getting 950 pixels of width (minus the borders), while most browser windows are now designed around 1024 width.

So, i saved myself about $600 and went out and bought a $279 1680x1050 22" Benq at costco, and run that beside my 1280x1024 17" monitor. NOW I have enough display real estate (most of the time).

I go to http://www.deniscarl.com/forum/ to find high-res widescreen wallpapers.

My monitor is 1680x1050 and I love it for development with Visual Studio 2005. With all the sidebars and toolboxes, it's nice to have a wider screen for more code space.

I'm looking for an analogue clock display utility that is transparent and remains on top of windows. Similar to the one I've seen on some Vista displays.

If anyone is interested, I found this http://alwact.atspace.com/.

It's an analogue clock display that is very configurable, uses less than 1% CPU, and it's free.

Well, well, well!

Just connected my Proview 22" widescreen monitor to my SA8300HD via a DVI cable to a DVI/HDMI adapter and I get great HD video. The Proview DVI input is DVI-D.

I set the resolution of the SA8300HD to 720p for this test.
