Over the weekend I watched the following on Blu-ray:

Hostel
Hostel Part II
28 Days Later

I had seen Hostel before off TMNHD but was impressed with the PQ and AQ of the Blu-ray. Only some people will like this kind of movie but for me I enjoyed it.

I had read a lot of bad things about Hostel Part II but with my lowered expectations going in I was pleasantly surprised. I actually liked the movie (for what it is). The PQ was not as good as the 1st but I didn't find it as bad as some people said. The AQ was really good.

I had never seen 28 Days before and enjoyed it a lot. I knew going in that the PQ was going to be bad due to the source and that did bug me for a while but I really liked the movie itself. The AQ was great as well. It was cranked up (even though it was around midnight when we watched it). I have 28 Weeks Later as well but have not watched it yet. That will happen this week or next weekend.

I have Tekkon Kinkreet and Black Book here now to watch in the next few days as well before my copies of 2001, The Shining, Meet The Robinsons, and the SM set arrive hopefully at the end of the week.

28 days later
28 weeks later

Had enjoyed the 28 days before and the movie was once again excellent. I agree PQ was less than stellar, but expected it and to be truthful, the movie being the type of movie it is (horror, edgey, grimy etc) I spent my time being scared :)

28 weeks later wasn't as good as the first one, but better transfer/picture quality by a long shot. There were good things about the movie and bad things. Had a very similar rage feel to it as well, which was great. Just some storyline things that bugged me. Overall worth a watch.

The Prestige made up the first half of my HD movie watching Friday night (thanks Disney bogo!)

A terrific film and great PQ... I have to say this is a must own disk for my HDM collection. Had I known it was this good, I would have imported the HD DVD before I went neutral. :)

I half wanted there to be a Batman vs Wolverine battle at the end. ;)

I got The Prestige from the BOGO but have not watched it yet. Have heard nothing but good things about it. I still have to watch Enemy of the State from the BOGO.

I guess the kids watched The Wild on Saturday on Blu-ray as well (another BOGO title I got). I caught a few minutes of it and it did look amazing. I can't comment on the movie itself though.

The Descent...

Holy friggin crap... great horror movie. Pretty scary and totally disgusting, it was everything I had hoped it would be and more.

Oh and the PQ was amazing. For a movie that takes place in caves, it looked great!!!

Just finished watching Halloween on Halloween!

The PQ in this Blu-ray is amazing. I am very surprised how good it looks especially considering the $320,000 budget for the film and that it is from 29 years ago. The DD 5.1 track is a lot better than I expected as well.

I have not seen this film in over 20 years and honestly didn't remember it that well from the last time I saw it. I am glad I bought it though. It will get many more viewings.

The Descent: Yeah I'm watching it again with the commentary tonight. Just an unreal flick to watch on BR! Best I've seen/heard yet.

Just wondering, is it really worth grabbing The Descent on BD? I've watched it on TMNHD and it was a pretty good flick... but is this really worth owning or even renting to see again?

Well i've never seen it at all but I don't plan to buy (unless it is really good and rewatchable to me). I will rent it.

The buy vs rent thing is really a personal preference. For most movies I would never watch again so in most cases I would prefer to rent instead of buy. It is hard these days though with most rental places only have a limited selection.

I bought it because I had never seen it before and was told by a few friends it's a must. After having bought it and watched it, I was glad to own it because I have had 2 different movie nights (different people) where we have watched the movie. I thought it was good enough to own.

Plus I guess a movie with pretty much only women, and some of them are quite nice to look at, lol, you can't go wrong. ;)

Spidey 3... impressive for sure PQ wise... I think I like movies alot better at home now. Theatres are so annoying lol hated spidey 3 when i first watched it at the theatre but it was packed with annoying people.

Yep there isn't much point to go to a theatre if you have a decent setup at home. About the only reason would be for a nice out of the house or to get out without the kids (for those who have them).
