The Fall - A fantastical voyage into the imagination of a little girl as she listens to a story of bandits, kidnapped damsels and vengeance told to her by a depressed Hollywood stuntman who's in the same hospital after an on-set accident leaves him paralyzed. Slightly more coherent in the plot department than Terry Gilliam's Tideland, Tarsem's fairy tale piles on one color-saturated scene after another in a visual orgy of sumptuous sets and beautifully-crafted costumes; the film plays like a Dali painting brought to life. The opening titles, against a black-and-white montage of the stuntman's accident is especially magnificent.
Certainly not a film for everybody's taste, there's no doubt this is a beautiful BD to behold that will dazzle your eyes with color and take your breath away with the composition of its images.

I went in with low expectations and this turned out to be a decent action flick. No, they did not do anything new or original, but I found it to be a an enjoyable story with good performances. Good PQ and AQ made this a worthwhile rental.

A snore with flat performances, average PQ and AQ. Transparent plot that goes nowhere, even Kevin Spacey could'nt save this one.

Just finished season 2 of Heroes. Even though its not as good as the first season, its still better than most of the garbage on the tube.

Wow! What an exceptional concert experience. PQ is excellent and I can only imagine listening to this in dts-HD would make it that much more impacting.

Referred to as the last 'raw' performance of Queen (before their keyboard phase). The Live Aid performance is worth it as well.

Ordered Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2 from Amazon.com. Watched part 1 so far. Awesome PQ and AQ. Not many extras but worth it for the HUGE upgrade over the DVD's. Doesn't look like these are going to be available in Canada until October sometime.

Just watched Transformers and thought it was amazing (PQ & AQ). The movie itself is not that great, but entertaining enough that I have watched it twice already. Granted, my 4 year old my have had something to do with that ;) But I really didn't mind.

I know what you mean Jono, my 8 year old and I have watched it at least 8 times.... 6 when it first came out on HDDVD, and now on Blu Ray.

P.S. For anyone thinking of buying speed racer, well don't...rent it like I did.... the movie itself was horrible, I couldn't even sit through the whole thing. On the other hand, it is HD nirvana in terms of the PQ, absolutely flawless!

Finally! I thought I was the only one!!!

Got about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way through, and turned it off. Will go back some day, since it is great eye candy (well, maybe not as much as Bikini Destinations, but....), but I guess you had to love the animated series to "get" the movie..

Kill Bill 1 and 2... my favorite 'movie' of all time hands down. Just love it to death and can never get tired of watching it. PQ and AQ was very good. Not the best I have seen but very good. I think the style of the film, in parts, impacted the PQ but that's ok.

Baby Momma... sort of forgettable, had some laughs and Tina Fey and Amy Pohler(sp?) looked cute as always... PQ was terrific, AQ good for a comedy.

Speed Racer - Park your brain at the door and just enjoy the hyperactive and hyper-stylized ride of this Wachowski brothers' adaptation of the 1960s Japanese cartoon. Part live action cartoon, part audacious video game, this is one colorful movie that looks absolutely stunning on Blu-Ray! AQ is a little disappointing though, as the disc lacks a high-def audio track. And the extras are in SD.

Batman The Movie - 1966

This is a fun movie especially if you're willing to just let go and treat the film like you're six years old, a time when Batman should be "heroic" without being all "grim & gritty"

I also own the Special Edition DVD (which is signed by Adam West) so I'm able to compare the two, the main difference is the audio quality, with the DTS-HD Master lossless audio track making the most of the jazzy Neil Hefti score.

Definitely a fun movie, a comic book brought to life

Nightmare on Elm Street

Thank goodness for blu ray is all I can say... Nightmare on Elm Street looks beautiful on blu! The colors are vibrant, there is no noise of any kind(dirt, haze...etc) in the picture and the detail isn't bad at all for a movie that is over 25 years old.

Also, the TrueHD audio was extremely good. Dialogue is strong, lots of surround and rocks the house when it kicks in.

I had no expectations for this flick as far as PQ and AQ went, but I am damn impressed!

3.5/5 for PQ
4/5 for AQ

Leatherheads - An aging journeyman football player (George Clooney) and a rising young star (John Krasinski) who happens to be a war hero vie for the affections of a sassy reporter (Rene Zellwiger) hot on a big story, and the future of the nascent professional game. George Clooney directs this breezy romantic comedy that's not without its charms, chuckles and easy chemistry between the leads. A solid couple of hours of escapist entertainment with nice, if unspectacular, PQ and AQ.

Great DVD - directed by Martin Scorsese.
The audio was fantastic - I was listening to the DTS-HD Master Audio track.
Lots of old footage from when they were much younger and didn't think they would still be in the band after three years.

Would recommend it to anyone who likes to watch concert DVDs (Blu-Ray)

Deception - When a bookish accountant (Ewan McGregor) doing an audit at a law firm befriends one of its charismatic lawyers (Hugh Jackman) he's unwittingly introduced to an intoxicating lifestyle of expensive suits, swank hotels and anonymous hook-ups with powerful, attractive women. But was this really just fate? McGregor, Jackman and Michelle Williams do their best with a script that telegraphs its plot twists and teeters on incredulousness in the last act. Turn your brain off, and it's not a bad ride. Think too much and the movie plays like a really long episode of Law & Order: SUV. Very nice PQ and decent AQ.

Dark City

Great movie, if you have never seen it, you must lol Very weird at first but makes more sense as it goes along.

Good PQ(although most of the movie is very 'dark', hence the title) and the 7.1 DTS-HD audio was very good.

Run Fatboy Run - Another loveable-schlub comedy from Simon Pegg. This time he plays Dennis, a mall security guard with a lot of bad habits who pines anew for the woman he left at the altar, Thandie Newton (yeah, I had a hard time wrapping my head around that one too). When his ex-almost takes up with Whitt, a buff American investment baker (likely now unemployed in the real world) who also happens to be a marathon runner, his competitive instincts alight. Much comedy ensues as Dennis tries to overcome his slovenly ways to become a marathon runner himself. A cute, if unspectacular, comedy. Nice colorful PQ, although it tended a little too much to the orange side for my taste.

Iron Man - Having been kidnapped by Middle Eastern terrorists who are using for "evil" the weapons his company has created for "good", wealthy military industrialist Tony Stark decides, upon his escape, to halt production of weapons, to disarm evil-doers and to dispense justice. His long-time business partner, Obadiah Stane, does not approve of this epiphany and, so, the stage is set for a clash of business - and iron - titans.

Although in my opinion it didn't quite live up to the hype, this turned out to be an entertaining "superhero" flick, with mandatory cool special effects, a very delicious Gwyneth Paltrow and a solid, schtick-laden performance by Robert Downey Jr. Now if only they'd stop involving Stan Lee in these ridiculous and pointless cameo appearances...

I watched the movie on Saturday in a very elegant (and expensive) HT in Mississauga running a BenQ W5000 1080p DLP projector. Great PQ.
