: What are you watching on Blu-ray? (and discussion of said titles)

I thought 3:10 to Yuma was a pretty good movie indeed, although near the end some things happened that I didn't like (ie. character issues that I didn't believe would happen) and felt slightly robbed, but otherwise enjoyed it. PQ and AQ were great.

Apocalypto was fantastic. A tiny bit slow to start for some people, but that didn't bother me at all. THe PQ and AQ again were great and I enjoyed the lush jungle looks etc.

Definitely recommend both with a preference for Apocalypto.

After reading lots about this movie I was curious to see it on Blu-ray.

Overall I thought the movie was pretty good. It was somewhat slow and of course had an atypical ending for Hollywood fare. I can see why Casey Affleck got his Oscar nomination. He did a really good job with the Robert Ford role. I thought Brad Pitt was pretty good as well as Jesse James but there wasn't as much to his role in this movie I don't think.

Some of the scenes in this movie were certainly very well done and the Cinematography Oscar nomination makes sense.

The Blu-ray is only so-so for PQ as advertised by many reviews. It is pretty soft and rather easy to see the edge enhancement. Surely a 2.5 hour movie could have benefitted from a BD-50 encode instead of a BD-25. There is no high def audio track on this disc but the DD5.1 did sound pretty good to me during the few action scenes.

I just picked up Gone Baby Gone for rent so my next Blu-ray will also be a Casey Affleck flick.

I recently purchased Full Metal Jacket and Good Fellas, blu ray. I am quite happy with the 2 of them, AV was top notch. The only thing I find lacking in the 2 of them is the lack of "extras", with Full Metal Jacket; you get the movie and an actors commentary, I would like to see some more interactive features.

A pretty good movie with quite a few twists and turns - my 2nd Casey Affleck movie in a row. I think Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris did pretty good jobs. Casey's girlfriend in the movie didn't seem to fit in as well.

Picture was a bit grainy but PQ was really good overall as was AQ.

Agree with Darrylr about Gone Baby Gone, especially if you like movies with moral dilemmas. My wife and I am still talking about it today. Ben Affleck did a great job directing his first major film. Great performances and Amy Ryan has been nominated for almost every best supporting actress award in 2007/08. PQ was solid. It seemed to match the mood of the film. Rented it at Blockbuster.

Across the Universe: Just bought it but it won't play on my player. I took the disc out and noticed a big splotch under the surface. I'm going to exchange it and hopefully be able to watch it tonight. This is my first time getting a defective disc.

I watched Across the Universe last night. Good reviews but wasn't sure what to expect. All Beatle fans should like it. Lots of references that non fans wouldn't understand. Overall it was a nice enjoyable movie.

Hart's War

Bruce Willis and Colin Farrell as Americans in a German POW camp. The story is around the trial surrounding the death of an american soldier and a black american pilot during the stay at the POW camp. The movie moved slow for some. The picture and audio quality was good. 6/10 - definitely a rental.

I finally was able to watch this last night even though i've had it for quite a while.

The PQ is amazing considering the age. The AQ is very, very good as well.

The movie itself I found to be pretty good. Not a totally great movie but decent. The ending seemed a bit strange to me.

I thought I had seen it before but that wasn't the case.

I'll spend some time to watch some of the content on the other 5 discs but for now I just watched the movies itself from the Final Cut disc.

Run Lola Run doesn't really hold up on Blu-ray due to the scenes shot on video (maybe 20-25% of the movie). The video scenes look brutal, and they become really jarring.

If you can get over the over the top plot that's really over the top then you might actually like the movie.

I haven't had a chance to watch the rest of the boxset yet.

We just finished watching this and not much to say other than WOW! This movie is great. The story may seem a bit slow to some I guess but the story, the acting, the cinematography, the Blu-ray PQ, and the Blu-ray AQ are all superb.

I highly recommend this movie to everyone.

The Blu-Ray version of Celine Dion's "New Day" is a 2 disc album.

One disc covers the back stage activity during the concert. It is amazing to see what had to be done every evening to make the show what it was. Dancers, musicians, Celine's outfit changing scenes, the running around to be at the right spot at the right time for everybody. And this is also in Blu-Ray.

The other disc is the concert itself. A thing of beauty. And the audio is in 5.1 Dolby Digital TrueHD. As with other Blu-Ray concerts ( http://www.sonybmg.com/blu-ray/ ) this is HD Video and not film. As clear as if you are there in the hall... actually, to some degree, better because of the closeups and different angles of view.

Note: This concert was produced by Montreal company "Production J" because it's CEO, Julie Shneider, is a close friend of Celine and Rene. And they are as good as any production company to produce this kind of show.

My comment is about the same as what james99 said when he watched it.

A strange movie.

You should read the book. I enjoyed the book when I read it back in highschool...

We love musicals. This one was great because we could relate to the time period (60's) and the music. We loved how they intertwined the music with the story in the movie. Already downloaded the soundtrack from iTunes. Only 10% of the music was lip-synched. Most movie musicals are completely lip-synched. Great extras, PQ and sound. This movie polarized reviewers, they either hated it or loved it. As you can tell we loved it.

I second that. Top notch in every way. Thought there were some Academy Award performances, especially Christian Bale and Steve Zahn.

Yeah I'm a bit surprised how Rescue Dawn was so unsuccessful at the box office and awards circuit.

I'm becoming a big Christian Bale fan.

Been watching a lot of them lately..... currently own about 120 BDs.... but so far in recent times by favorite I've watched at home was Sunshine.

I wasn't expecting what I got. Great acting, very intense and thrilling story. Not to mention the PQ was excellent and the DTS:MA track was mind blowing. The surrounds on that movie get used A LOT, its very high quality sound. Love it!
