: New Blu-Ray Movie Can Only Be Played On PS3

A major disk glitch has occurred with one of the latest Blu-Ray movie releases. The acclaimed horror film The Descent was recently released in the new next-gen format but will only work on the Playstation 3 Blu-Ray player. A blank screen is shown when attempting to play the movie on regular Sony and Pioneer Blu-Ray movie players. According to a story at IMDB.com the reason is that the movie's distributor, Lionsgate, used BD-Java technology to handle The Descent's picture-in-picture commentary feature. Sony will apparently issue an update to its player that will fix the problem later this year; there is no word on when the Pioneer Blu-Ray disk player will be able to be fixed.

Nice QA on that release.

Apparently the story is incorrect. The only one that needs a fix is Sony's standalone player.

IIRC, it is a BD-J issue.
Neither Sony, nor Pioneer or Samsung with the original firmware can play it. All need updates.
Since it is not clear when those will appear, there were rumours BD-J titles were quietly pulled from the shelves untill those updates are available.

The last BD title I picked up had TWO inserts in the disc case - one warning that whatever player I was using might need a firmware update, and another one specific to a particular player (don't recall which one) warning about the same.

Does the Panasonic DMP-BD10 need an upgrade? (1.2 is the latest one)
