I gotta say I have never experienced a company in any field with customer service as bad as Acer...
I bought a laptop from them in December 2005. In Feruary, April and July it was returned to them (gone for two weeks at a time)...It would not power up...I think it was a power supply issue...but they would never tell me...
The third time it went in for the same problem I told the customer service guy call centre guy that perhaps they should replace the machine seeing as they were unable to fix it right...The call centre people are drones who are trained to not help people...he said they were unable to do that...I told him that given this reoccuring problem I was concerned the I would have the same issue again shortly after the warrantee expired...not to work he said he would make a note on my file to ensure it was fixed properly this time...
Well guess what same thing happens in February 2006....as I predicted just after warantee expired...called call centre...ws told my only option was to return laptop to the along with a $449 preapporved payment on my credit card...I told them this was an ongoing manufacturing defect they said tough...I talked to a supervisor who told me that if indeed it was only a power pack issue they would refund some of $449 to my credit card...I aksed to be escalated up the food chain...he said that couldn't be done...
Since then I have made two phone calls to Canadian head office (the receptionist is a voice mail)...neither calls returned...I have also faxed them three letter including one to their Canadian head honcho ...no replies to those either...
So Monday its off to small claims court...they can ingore me but not the courts...
But this is a huge pain in the a.ss...Acer makes the Big Three car companies look like the models of customer servvice

i know someone in retail.
his advice - don't buy one, the failure rate is too high and the customer service sucks
look at a toshiba, sony or something else
Whoa!
I've been contemplating a laptop, including Acer, so this is a bit of a surprise. Acer has been a hot brand the last few years.
Looking forward to some more feedback.

I've had 3 acer notebooks inc. an acer ferarri (last years model 4000)
I found them great. The screen was bright and crisp, decent battery life, nice looks and good performance. The specs you listed are impressive.
I would buy an acer again.

I've purchased tones of Acer products from monitors to tv's to computers to notebooks. The quality for me has always been average to above average. The price point compared to HP, Dells have always been more appealing. However the customer support is indeed much to be desired.
My experience with entry level Acer products.......get about 2 years of product life for an attractive price......when it fails after that; replace it.
I could never be without my hardware for weeks at a time anyway.

I've been using an Aspire 1800 for the last couple of year’s problem free. Several people I work with liked mine so much that I have purchased 4 more of them and they have performed flawlessly. I work this baby hard, digital video, music, graphic design, burning DVD's etc. and it has never let me down.
As a IT guy for a medium / large company I have purchased and supported many different brands of laptops over the last 10 years and in my experience the Acers's have been as good for less money than HP's, Lenovo's (ne. IBM), Toshiba's and Dell's.
I can't comment on the level of customer service at Acer as the 5 laptops in production at my job have never required service.

I work in IT and we have several different brands of laptops through out the company.
Id say that Toshiba makes the best (My opinion). 6 Years dealing with many brands they are the ones with the least amount of trouble and when there is its resolved quickly.
I find Dell the worst, replacment parts are FAR to expensive. HP has improved, earilier models were flimsy and cheap (Omni Book being one). Seems since Compaq and them merged their laptops have gotten much better. I would say that HP in general make a great product.
We have had one acer in our company and it was junk, I also find their PC's to be of poor quality and their support sub par.
Just my 2 cents.
I have had my ACER TravelMate 4000 for almost 3 years now. I use it pretty much every day and have never had a problem with it

ya know it's not really about whether you have had 10 acer and they have been the best computers you have ever had...
it's about the way the company treats you...any company can and will have a problem with the odd machine....happened to me before..and if the company fixes it no prob....
but the problem with Acer is they won't even talk to me...the ony vioce I have ever heard is at the likely contracted out call centre who said tough luck you machine is more than ayear old...whatever the problem or the history if you want it fixed give us $449..
I can't get ahold of anyone at head office...even the receptionist has voice mail...left message for someone to contact me on twice...no one returned my call...and they have failed to answer three letters I sent them
That is much more the issue for me than the product itself...I have never encountered a company that ignores correspondence like this...when I have had problems with the (ex) Big Three North American car manufactures over similar situations they have at least had the decency to talk to me ...even if they didn't resolve the situation in the way I would have liked...
If any poster thinks the way Acer has treated me is ok, I got just one bit of adivce...pal you ain't cut out for customer service...except maybe with
Acer

well if you cream loud enough you win....just before I was about to file in small claims court an Acer supervisor called and said they would fix the machine if I drove it or paid to have it shipped to Mississauga...fair enough compromise...
I must say I was very impressed by the service..the fixed the power iss .I had a flickering screen that happened after the warrantee ran out...never even raised it with them but they gave me a new screen...also gave me a new hard drive...don't think I needed it but I certainly won't complain...and replaced the speaker...again there was nothing the matter with them...the old and new speakers sould like crappy laptop speakers..
And somehow I manage to lose part of the power cord...I called the they replaced it for $7 US and $10 shipping and it arrived in 2 days...
May now think about getting another Acer...just too bad I had to go through such hoops...show it pays to complain
