I have been using the usb port on the front panel of the 8300HD to charge my PS3 controllers and iPod as it is supposed to be powered at all times. The usb port has since stopped working. Is this a hardware failure or did I change a setting on the 8300HD by accident. Thanks.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion. :D
I thought I'd try mine right now, and it is working. I tried with the box powered on and off, and the controller charges either way.
Do you have any other USB device you could try in that port to see if it's still working?

The USB port on the 8300HD was really convenient. It doesn't seem to charge the iPod anymore as well. I was hoping it was a setting on the PVR I changed but t looks like the port connection may be fried.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Well, hate to tell you this, but you probably fried your USB port. If your device is drawing more than what the USB port can provide, you will definitely damage the USB port. I don't believe there are specs to throttle the output of the USB ports. That's why you shouldn't be doing it unless you know that the USB port can provide the power needed to charge your USB device.
Its similar to Axim X50v PDAs which required more power than normal USB ports can handle, and there have been many documented articles of people connecting their Axim X50v to their PC or laptop USB ports to charge from thus causing their motherboards to fry or the USB port to be inoperative.
