Hey I am contemplating getting a 6412 or 6416 soon but until then I wanted to try to get the most out of this 6200.

I have been having problems with some HD channels having skipping and pixellation or whatever you want to call it - crappy "reception"

So after reading the thread about adding an ebayed 64xx to shaw etc, I looked at my 6200's menu.

Here's some of the info:

OOB:
SNR 19.4 dB FAIR
AGC 24% GOOD

IN-BAND:
SNR 36.8 dB GOOD
AGC 76% FAIR

CODE:
LST 148 VER 25
Boot Code 04.21
tcs_1012 10.12
tvg7345r 73.45

Just to mention, I am using Shaw provided RG6 and a Shaw splitter to split the cable from the wall a few feet then into the 6200 and the Cable Modem SB5200.

I have TV, Internet and Digital Phone, with the phone off another outlet in the Garage.

I am considering moving the SB5200 down to the basement (nearer the PC) and running a split RG6 from the same outlet as the Phone modem, would this help the signal levels? We rarely use the phone anyway. I also have Xtreme-I and am only getting about 750 KB/s not the 950+ I was getting in Calgary, but that is another story.

I want to "force" the box to get the absolute latest software etc from the headend, to see if anything gets updated, hopefully for the better.

So, is the reset procedure for the the 6200 the same as for the 64xx?

(from http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_to_use_a_Motorola_DVR/Resets )

1. Unplug the power cord from the DVR.
2. On the front of the DVR, press & hold the POWER & MENU buttons while plugging the power cord back into the DVR. The display should now read "boot".
3. Release the POWER & MENU buttons.
4. Press the UP or DOWN ARROW buttons until you see "n dl" on the display.
5. Press the OK/SELECT to begin authorization & downloading of software, STB/DVR firmware from your cable headend. It could take up to 20 minutes to download. You should see "n dl" in the LED display with a line moving in a square.
6. After it completes this download the DVR will then reboot and begin to download the time settings for the clock along with your cable account info and settings. After this is done, it will begin to populate the Guide info. It could take up to 24 hours to fill in all 2 weeks of Guide info.

If not, what are the steps?

If so, will I need to call Shaw again to do anything after reset, or will it download and be active on the network?

What are the risks?

What is everyone else with the 6200 running for levels and software versions?

Thanks, hopefully I'll have a 6412 p3 or better soon, I hear the channel changing is much faster and the SD analogue/digital chans are much improved.

ok after reading around the web, I did the reset last night. no problems, but no change to the software versions, and obviously the signal levels.

We'll see tonight if the HD channels are working any better.
