dialog_gvf 2007-01-21, 01:43 PM Sorry. I was adding something specifically about the "new features" FAQ.
And technically isn't talk about the 8300 HDPVR supposed to be in THIS section? :)

yeahbut, firewire also affected the 3250HD, so we started and left the firewire discussion under Rogers.
jasonchan 2007-01-22, 01:53 PM Not sure if this is related to the update / updating process, I just noticed yesterday that my weekly scheduled recordings for this week got wiped out, only the ones I manually scheduled (not the ones that I had scheduled using "Record All") were left. Although I think the scheduled recordings was still there on Friday, and I got the 1.89.16.2 update a week ago.

I had the same thing happen to me yesterday. But I unplugged the box, and let it do a full reboot, and my scheduled recordings all came back.
sugarman 2007-01-22, 07:41 PM Same thing last friday. Not one scheduled recording on list & it wouldn't let me redo any existing ones. Message that you cannot schedule 3 recordings at the same time even though none came up. All was Ok after a reboot. :p Tip off was when I turned PVR on, I got the message Your External recordring device (ext hard drive) is attatched & functioning (or something to that effect), means STB rebooted. I had split recordings around 2AM so I checked diagnostics & there was a Rogers reboot. You can check to see your last reboot on diagnostics page 1, shows as: Booted: Fri Jan 19 2007 & time. Funny, the Rogers boot causes the loss & a reboot brings it back. Never had that happen before.
milkster 2007-01-22, 10:16 PM I'm not sure if this is a bug but today i was recording Prison Break on channel 531 and also Deal or no Deal on channel 11 from 8pm to 9pm. I started watching prison break about 25min late so i was behind the live broadvast a bit. Anyway, at 8:58pm the pvr jumped to live on the same channel i was watching (531).
I then noticed that i could only rewind for 2min....Rest of the bar was red (not green). I had to wait till 9pm when the recording was scheduled to stop and then i noticed that Prison Break was split into 2 recordings. One was 58min and the other was 2min.
Is this a new bug or was this in the old version too?
btw, i do have the new firmware 1.89.16.2....
The issue with Fox Buffalo has been well documented in the following thread, post 9 onwards
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=47394
Comments regarding the new firmware are documented in post 37 onwards.
Whenever you do a recording on Fox Buffalo and the STB screws up, do a cold reboot (unplug/replug), otherwise the STB will not function properly for other channels either.
Based on the comments, I'm not sure if the Fox Buffalo situation is rectified with the new firmware.
This issue was also discussed earlier in this thread. (post 111)
Daniel Tonks 2007-01-23, 02:21 AM Well, ever since that brief period on the 16th and 17th when everything was golden, my hard drive had NOT shut off, even once. Very annoying.

I am playing WOW: Burning Crusade like a sucker when my tv goes off behind me, looks like i am getting the new firmware.
Ottawa, January 23rd.
SurrealCivic 2007-01-23, 08:16 AM I received the new firmware overnight, and already found some problems.
Hooked up my 8300HD to my Samsung HT-TQ85 HTiB. No longer do I get the HDMI/DVI is blocked message, it works! But, the video cuts out every couple of minutes only for seconds but still cuts out. And the audio does not work.
It might be that I have it hooked up wrong, but I tried both ways and one way I get video and these issues that I described above, the other way I do not get anything video/audio.
I have my HDMI cable that is hooked up to my LCD TV hooked up to the HDMI IN port on my HTiB, then a HDMI cable going from the SA 8300HD to the HDMI OUT port on my HTiB.
Not sure whats up. I will do more tests when I get back home from work tonight.
Do you have the digital audio out set to Dolby Digital or Auto HDMI?
callummcgraw 2007-01-23, 09:17 AM I received the update early this morning here in Ottawa so I thought I would try my HDMI / DVI cable again. I disonnected my component, connected the DVI to my 57H83 and the other end to the HDMI on the 8300HD and just like magic it started working. This has never previously worked for me and most other Toshiba CRT-based RPTV's as far as I know...
JohnnyG 2007-01-23, 09:45 AM I haven't tested an HDMI connection yet on my 46H83...very glad to hear it'll work!
Rouge21 2007-01-23, 09:46 AM I received the new firmware overnight, and already found some problems.

I have had the new firmware for a couple of weeks and I have had the video cut out as you described above a couple of times...nothing major ie it hasnt happened very often. I use only HDMI to HDMI both with the TV to the 8300 and TV to the DVD player.
Cyclism 2007-01-23, 09:56 AM Rouge21/SurrealCivic:
For anyone who has received the firmware update and is using an HDMI connection, it is recommended that you do a cold reboot of the STB. Simply unplug the box from the electrical outlet. Wait at least 10 seconds before you plug it back in. Wait at least another 10 minutes for the IPG to download and for the STB to "talk" to Rogers before powering on the STB.
bgclarke 2007-01-23, 10:04 AM I have my HDMI cable that is hooked up to my LCD TV hooked up to the HDMI IN port on my HTiB, then a HDMI cable going from the SA 8300HD to the HDMI OUT port on my HTiB.
Shouldn't you have the HDMI OUT of your HTIB going to your TV and have the HDMI OUT of the SA8300 HD connected to the HDMI IN of your HTIB?
guido 2007-01-23, 10:17 AM just to confirm the update is live in Cambridge as well... most likely it's all of Ontario now.
Well, ever since that brief period on the 16th and 17th, my hard drive had NOT shut off, even once.
Strange, after the first day or so, when I assume there was still downloading going on, my HDD spins down just as before.
Try a cold reboot - unplug, wait a few seconds/replug.

Please see http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=56732 as I'm having similar issues. I suggest we discuss this issue in that thread
opsdl 2007-01-23, 01:40 PM I got the update last night and this is what I've done to filter (sort of) the EPG:
Settings -> Turn on Parental Control.
Settings -> Settings -> Block: Titles -> Hidden.
Settings -> Block this Channel.
Block each channel that you're not subscribed to or are not interested in.
Now in the EPG the channel will still be there, but the description for the show in the grid will be "Title Blocked" or something like that.
Not as good as a true filter, but makes browsing the EPG much more user-friendly.
Enjoy!
By the way, the recordings on my external drive were unaffected by the upgrade. I only mention this, because some people reported an issue.
