I've noticed something else with the new firmware. It seems like scrolling through your recorded items is now a bit faster than it was before. I have over a hundred items in there and they scroll by a bit quicker.

lawgman 2007-01-11, 10:51 PM I have not noticed a change in brightness on any of the HD channels. That said, since the upgrade the picture on my standard def TV looks much better with the regular digital box.
sugarman 2007-01-11, 11:03 PM The "A scheduled recording of XXXXXX will begin in 2 minutes" message now stays on for 20 seconds compared to previous 5 or so. Annoying on a 57" set.
I used to leave it, now I hit EXIT.
kocoman 2007-01-12, 01:38 PM Also seems like the front AUX input is also now enabled. Just plug in something and press the Video Source button on your remote while in CBL mode. Can't PVR from Aux though...
"recording feature not available for auxiliary input"
Will the next version enable that.. the AUX is still useless..
ferkel 2007-01-12, 03:07 PM Anyone having problems with HDMI output now with the new updates? Intermittently the screen will go black for 2 seconds when watching via HDMI. I switched to component cables and its fine.
It was working fine before the update!
Cyclism 2007-01-12, 03:11 PM Anytime you are experiencing problems with HDMI on a Rogers STB, do a cold reboot and check to see if the cables are seated firmly. That usually solves the problem.
scotta 2007-01-12, 04:00 PM Has anyone noticed the image being brighter?
I haven't noticed any visual change in brightness, but...
I happened to record the test pattern from Showcase HD, after the firmware update. I had previously adjusted my TV brightness level using the PLUGE from the CBC HD test patterns, recorded before the update. My brightness now has to be turned way down (from 43 to 31) to match the PLUGE in the Showcase pattern.
I still have the old CBC pattern recorded and my brightness has to be set to the old 43 value for it. Unfortunately, I never tried the Showcase pattern before the update. It could just be differences between the signals from each station. I guess conclusions would depend on whether the purported change affects the brightness of the recorded signal, or how the recorded signal is output.
I'll try to remember to record the test pattern from HDNet. I seem to recall that it matched my TV settings fairly closely when I checked it before the upgrade.
If you check the Showcase thread, you'll find that several of us have commented that the picture is washed out. I don't think they're sending the correct signal - you may wish to advise them.

yep.. tried that. I also switched HDMI cables and tried it with the second HDMI port. I guess its just me experiencing this... hopefully its not the Sony LCD TV...
Bplayer 2007-01-13, 08:03 AM I was really looking forward to having the first run flag enabled with the upgrade, but no luck. The Star Week TV Guide has been listing new shows with (N) for about six month so that has helps, but feature would be really nice.
wprager 2007-01-13, 08:50 AM According to the following link the "First Run" option is available but, so far, I have not heard anyone mention it (other than to say it's not available).

Urbancommando 2007-01-13, 05:28 PM I have the new firmware, but can anyone confirm that the new firmware powers down an external SATA drive when not in use?
That'd be a huge plus for the long term viability and reliability of using an external drive. The fact that it now spins 24/7 is a real concern to me.

Using the PLUGE (the number 10 black square) from the HDNet test patterns that I recorded this morning, it pretty closely matches level of the old CBC HD patterns. Therefore, as 57 said, the Showcase HD levels are probably different than the other stations, thus explaining the reports of Showcase HD looking washed out. So, for me, it appears that there is very little brightness change, if any, between the previous and the new SA firmware.

I have two TiVos that I have had for about 4 years and the drives in TiVos are made to run 24/7 and I haven't experinced failures in them.
superx 2007-01-14, 02:25 PM I am also getting a black frame on HDMI every couple of senconds then it going back. how do I fix this.
Do a cold reboot of the STB (unplug/replug) See the Digital Home FAQ (under help) "Tips for SA STBs".
Also, unplug and replug the HDMI cable a few times to ensure a good mechanical/electrical connection. See the FAQ "Things to check first".
This is probably not firmware related, so, if the issue continues, post in the 8300HD HDMI issues thread.

kibosh 2007-01-14, 09:36 PM Hi There,
Can anyone with the new firmware confirm if the recording from Fox Buffalo problem has been rectified?
Thanks,
Kibosh
rvs007 2007-01-14, 10:49 PM Still a problem with Fox Buffalo station... tonight's 2-hour 24 Season Premiere still got broken into 2 parts.
ANDYA 2007-01-14, 11:49 PM Yes I had that happen as well. But before after the Fox broken recording was made if I was watching a recorded show and a new recording started the PVR switched to the show being recorded. This did not happen tonight. I was watching a recorded show and when a new recording started the program that I was watching was not affected.
