It could. Give it another week or two. My HDD finally stopped spinning 100% of the time a couple of days ago.
Both of my 8300HD's were rebooted by the system a week ago last Saturday. The interesting thing is that for one of them, the HDD has been spinning non stop since then while the other one spins down normally after being shut off. Weird.
FWIW, Wednesday morning , my 8300HD had an upgrade, or whatever. In the morning, it was on channel 1, not where I left it the night before.
castaban 2007-02-08, 01:39 PM I am sorry, but I have to say that I am quite disappointed with the new F/W. My two previous biggest problems were Recording Padding (Weekly shows) and FF/Instant Replay have not been fixed. Inconsistent Program Titles problem have not been resolved. 4x FF is nice, but I didn't use it since I got it. It is good that they fixed the kick-out to live and that is about it. It is bunch of fluff... It is a shame
slyboy 2007-02-09, 09:24 AM I agree. The only really tangible (useful) thing is that the kick-out to live issue has been corrected. Nothing else is substantial. The 4x FF is nice, but it isn't even needed as often now that the kick-out bug doesn't occur. I found myself only needing to jump through a long recording at fast speed when I had previously been kicked out of a show I had been watching that didn't finish. If this box could remember where you left off in multiple recordings you REALLY wouldn't need that ultra high speed FF.
wprager 2007-02-09, 09:47 AM Sounds like we're all in agreement here. Option to watch from the start for an in-progress recording and not being kicked ou is a plus. The 4th ff/rw speed was useful as a quick indicator that the upgrade has happened. I find it too fast to skip commercials reliably, especially now that the Live button functionality (while in playback) has been apparently changed -- more on that later. The 4th speed would have really been useful in the past to quickly rewind an in-progress recording; now it is less useful -- what is really needed is direct access (i.e. enter the time where you want to start) or at least a one-button 15 minutes advance, and a last-viewed index for all recordings (i.e. an option to start watching where you last stopped).
What's with the Live button when in playback? I used to use it for a quick 8 or 10 second skip back, and it was very useful when skipping at the fastest speed. Now it returns me back to the previous channel I was watching before starting playback -- isn't that the same function we already had with the "Prev" button? Also, I cannot be 100% sure, but I think *sometimes* the Live button still does the 8 second skip back (i.e. there were a few times I had pushed it that I didn't have to hit "Prev" to get back; unless of course the remote needs some cleaning).
The "10 second back" button is where it's always been - on the left side of the remote opposite the "live" button next to "list". (That's where it is on my remote)
Bplayer 2007-02-09, 07:10 PM I have found the 4xFF useful in the situation where watching a program, especially a movie, has been interrupted in the middle and you have to start playback from the begining. 4xFF gets you there quickly.
I also like the added recond just on this day feature. It helps to reduce those reruns on other days. The first run show feature would be nice and I suspect that it is missing because the IPG does not have it.
JoeSoap 2007-02-10, 12:05 PM A followup to post #233 re the scheduled recordings more than 7 days out.
I have several shows that I know are going to have a problem due to shifted start time or inconsistent titles but this week they're not showing more than 7 days out. However, I've noticed other behaviour.
For one "all episodes, this timeslot" that isn't playing next week, the description is showing last week's description??
Another "all episodes, timeslot" that has different start time, but overlaps scheduled recording, the description is correct but I know it won't be recorded.
For one "all episodes, this day, this timeslot" that has inconsistent title, the description is blank.
Another "all episodes, this day, this timeslot" that isn't playing next week, the description is blank.
So it looks you need to have "all episodes, this day, this timeslot" and check for blank descriptions to determine if there is an "error" and won't record.
wprager 2007-02-11, 05:45 PM My bad. I use a Harmony 520 and confused some buttons. In TV mode Skip Back is mapped to Replay and Skip Forward is mapped to Live. When fast-forwarding, I use the Play/Replay trick, and I guess once in a while I hit Live accidentally when I hit Play (the Skip Forward is right next to Play). Before the firmware upgrade the Live button did nothing, so I never noticed it. Now I do.
uberchuckie 2007-02-14, 11:09 AM Does anyone know if 1.89 has the new Daylight Saving Time accounted for or would we be getting another firmware upgrade?
DST was the main reason that firmware was released to ALL Rogers STBs in January.
castaban 2007-02-14, 12:38 PM I thought DST will not have anything to do with F/W. Aren't we simply getting our time from Rogers? As long as the times on Rogers' servers are right we should be fine, I thought
The firmware always had issues with certain recordings at changes to/from DST. Certain recordings would not "change" properly - for example a "timeslot" recording would change from 7PM ot 8PM or something similar. This is a firmware function, not just a time function.
As for regular STBs, I'm not sure, but they did all receive new firmware anyway, perhaps the IPG has some sort of impact in this - for example, you can set "timers" on STBs in the same way you can schedule recordings in the PVRs.
jkanas 2007-02-27, 04:37 PM I have noticed my external drive now often disconnects and is awol, this since the firmware. All else seems to be ok.
Closed since new firmware has been sent out
