castaban 2007-01-31, 01:48 PM AVS states that the padding will not be kept for shows which are weekly shows. However, if it is a dayly show it will be remembered. I haven't not successfully padded a show at the end, when it is a weekly show, like Heroes or Grey and I am recording all episodes. (Colbert is a daily show, right?)
However, if it is a daily show it will be rememberedNot if you pad at the start, as I indicated in my previous post - the programm is "not found" since the start time is incorrect. I'm experimenting with "end padding" to see if it'll last more than 7 days.
wprager 2007-01-31, 09:38 PM I have been doing a fair bit of experimenting with regard to "padding" Here are my results.
57, thanks for all the effort. However all of this means that the SA box does not support padding in the truest sense of the word. I'm very disappointed.
nathan 2007-01-31, 09:49 PM Colbert is a daily show, yes (well, mon-thurs), and yes, it lasts longer than 7 days. Unfortunate that it won't work for other shows I record. Grrr...
TheHYPO 2007-02-01, 03:51 AM I'm not sure this is firmware related, and I THINK I would've noticed this if it had happened when I got the firmware update, but I think this is a brand new phenomenon on my 8300 (SD - haven't checked the HD) - when I change channels now, I get the info bar at the bottom, over a black screen with a thin grey bar at the top. for maybe half a second. Then the black becomes all grey for another half a second before the show shows up. It's making channel changing longer than before.
Possibly related or unrelated, I left the room for maybe an hour around midnight and I know the boxes used to have auto-off at night. Now when I returned, I got a message (paraphrase:) "hard drive shut down. press any key to restart". Is this the new thing instead of shutting down entirely?
The "screensaver" was discussed in a couple of previous posts. If you wish to see them, search this thread for screensaver.
Stoner 2007-02-01, 03:03 PM We just received and hooked-up our Rogers 8300HD PVR.
My question is, we live in Ottawa and the majority of the firmware discussion seems to be based in or around TO.
Seeing as I just got/installed the pvr would I have the latest version of the firmware?
* i apologize if i'm off topic or out of subject *
Cyclism 2007-02-01, 03:15 PM Stoner:
The firmware update effected everyone on the Rogers network, it was just staggered. All the areas have received the update and so should you. The minute you plug in your unit to the cable outlet and the electricity, it should start updating the firmware. You don't even need to turn on the STB for it happen. You can easily check by playing a recording and see if you have a 4th FF or Rew speed option.
You will likely have the new firmware when you connected the STB. You can see the firmware version and other information in the diagnostics - discussed in the following thread on SA STBs, which you should probably read.

TheHYPO 2007-02-02, 01:17 AM Slight update. Tonight it is NOT doing any grey when I switch channels, but the blackout period while flipping still seems longer than it used to be.
I think screensaver is a misnomer, since it's really just a screen that says the HD is asleep - it's more likely to burn in your screen than the TV itself, unless it changes which I haven't seen.
I tuned off my TV and 8300HD last night after Letterman and the 8300 started a countdown of sorts, and then went dead blank. I have the time display when the box is off.
I've read other reports of this, so I'm sure it's normal during this firmware upgrade period. Everything seems normal this morning.
I had thought everyone was through the upgrade process by now. It's been about ten days for me. The fact they are still rebooting machines means they are not finished and perhaps many of the reported errors, bugs and dislikes may yet be resolved.
Here's hoping
Stoner 2007-02-03, 03:09 PM I've noticed that our 8300 has done this a few times over the last few days as well.
Is it "normal"?
A new "feature" with the new firmware is that if you see a scheduled recording that is MORE than 7 days "out", this scheduled recording has an "error". Either it's the wrong time, or is an "inconsistent programme title", etc.
For example, if you've set an "all episode" recording and its exact match is not on during the next 7 days, the scheduled recording will be "moved out" to the next potential recording time.
In this manner you can then check your recordings for timeslot changes, or inconsistent programme titles. This was discussed in the thread below:

PS. Although my HDD has been spinning for several days, it was off today. Perhaps they're finally finished with all the "patches" to the firmware.
Stoner 2007-02-05, 11:32 AM Our 8300 has continued to "reboot" itself periodically for no apparent reason.
It displays the word "boot" and seems to reset itself...any thoughts?
If I recall, Ottawa was one of the last placed to get the firmware, they'll likely be one of the last places to stop with the patches.
sugarman 2007-02-05, 10:05 PM On Friday for the second time now since the upgrade my SCHEDULED RECORDINGS list were blank. This time there was no Rogers forced boot beforehand. A coworker told me it also happened to him. This is bad if, like him, you travel alot & rely on it to record your favorite shows. Time to report it to Rogers.
Stoner 2007-02-06, 09:36 AM So if Ottawa was one of the last places to get the firmware patch would this explain my numerous reboots 57?
iamdman 2007-02-06, 09:41 AM Can you post the steps you took to record to PC via Firewire for the rest of us?
Cyclism 2007-02-06, 09:44 AM iamdman:
The Firewire discussion is here:
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=56259&highlight=firewire
Please read through it.
This thread is for the discussion of the SA8300HD firmware upgrade on Rogers only.
So if Ottawa was one of the last places to get the firmware patch would this explain my numerous reboots 57?
It could. Give it another week or two. My HDD finally stopped spinning 100% of the time a couple of days ago.
