The purpose of this thread is for Digital Home members to review and relay their experience with Telus High Speed Internet Service

This is NOT a discussion thread so please limit yourself to one post which includes your review.

We welcome the input and opinions of all members whether they are good or bad, however, please note that this thread is NOT for rants. Whether you had a good or bad experience with this vendor we want to hear about it but in an OBJECTIVE manner.

If you post a rant or childish comments like, these guys "suck" or they're all a "bunch of idiots", then your comments will be considered trolling and your post will be deleted.

When you post, please try to include the following information:

What product or service you purchased.
Approximate timeframe you ordered the product
What location you dealt with if it’s a company with many stores or service locations
Your overall level of satisfaction
If you had a positive experience, please explain what made it such a positive experience.
If you had a negative experience, please read our guidelines below.

Guidelines for Posting Negative Reviews

The truth is no retailer or service provider is perfect and occasionally even the best companies can disappoint. Our experience is that good companies have problems but they typically make every reasonable effort to resolve problems.

If you had a problem and are posting a negative review, then please note what efforts you made to resolve the problem and the feedback you received. If you think the efforts to resolve the problem were NOT reasonable then please explain why. Saying you phoned up and talked to some idiot, suggests the problem may lie with the consumer and NOT the company!

No posting URLS or Directs to Competitors will be deleted

Posts containing URL's to competitors or posts saying gee you should have shopped at this retailer will be considered spam and deleted.

We want opinions, NOT sales pitches or spam!

Seems I'm the first poster. I have been on Telus High since since 1998 (Telus Velocity) and now Telus High Speed Enhanced (I'm still using the original 3COM modem).

Without a doubt, it has been 99.9% reliable. I have only called their help desk once and have used their Telus E-Care service once. Telus never bugs you about your downloads and does not throttle any bit torrent downloading (so I'm told by my son). They also have very good response time for gaming (also from my son). The speed never matches their advertised rate (enhanced is supposed to be 2.5, but is actually 2.0 to 2.2), but it is consistent. I also like their homepage. It is well laid out and is very functional. They could also spend some more resources controlling e-mail spam. I appear to be getting a lot lately.

But their service is expensive relative to their main competitor and they are not keeping up to Shaw in the speed department. Also I cannot take advantage of any bundling (unless they hurry up in the HDPVR department and offer cheaper VOIP service), so I am likely to switch to Shaw once my contract is up (another aspect I really don't like).

Overall, though, I have been very satisfied with the service.

Same as Nanuuk - signed up 2 years ago with 1.5 - upgraded to 3.0 a few months back - just upgraded to 6.0 today. Again enforced caps or throttling, constant speeds. If I have to call not too long on hold. Only issue would be retention and completions on newsgroups.

I've had their service since 2001 (1.5 Mbps, at 3 different addresses in North Vancouver) and though it was spotty for the first 6 months, ever since they it has been extremely reliable. My download speed seems to stay very constant, which is probably more a function of DSL than anything else. Again, I haven't bumped into any enforced bandwidth caps or throttling.

I recently switched to Dry Loop (naked, bare, or whatever you call it) DSL and that was a bit of nightware in regards to customer service. You can read some of the details here:
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showpost.php?p=418061&postcount=8

I would also agree with the things that the other posters have said:

-Email: I get quite a lot of spam on the two email addresses that I have
-Webmail: A very basic webmail app (though I don't know how other ISPs compare); I switched to Gmail instead
-Price: Good bonuses if you're a new customer, but no breaks for long-time customers; I pay $36 per month, which isn't bad, but not spectacular for the speed
-Speed: Doesn't feel that they've really been keeping up

I might have looked more seriously at Shaw but their bandwidth throttling and QoS issues (especially because I'm an VoIP user with Primus) have kept me with Telus.

Soon as my ADSL contract is up I am leaving Telus and switching to shaw, if shaw comes out with mobility phones I am going to switch to shaw as well.
I am on the phone at least twice a month with Internet problems and the high speed at the claimed 3mbps isn't very fast.
Not happy with them, but stuck till summer 2008

I've been with Telus for about 3 years now. In that time I've had 1 service outage that was not related to the equipment.

Helpdesk can be tough to get ahold of during regular hours and I've found I get through much quicker after 10pm mountain. The staff have been polite and helpful in my experience.

When we moved to Calgary last year I considered switching and checked out the other options. In our situation, staying with Telus made the most sense.
