: Yam RX-V2600 tuner through VCR1: impossible?!

I have a problem that appears impossible.

I have a RX-V2600 (Canadian) about 3 months old. I have been using it with a Satellite STB (HDMI), HD TV (HDMI), CD player (analog), DVD player (HDMI), Playstation 2 (analog) - all successfully. No problems.

I have just now hooked up to it a Samsung DVD-VR330 DVD/VCR recorder for the purpose of copying old VHS tapes and live/PVR TV programs onto DVD.

I have connected this unit using the VCR1 analog/S-Video jacks in & out. Its pretty straight forward. I'm not using any digital interconnects for this unit. Its a simple set of S-Vid, Audio L & Audio R in & out.

The strange thing is, when the DVD/VCR recorder is on but not active, the receiver input is set to VCR1, the A/V receiver outputs the radio tuner to the speakers & nothing to the video (vs the Yamaha screen saver).

When I have tried recording to DVD: A/V Receiver on, A/V Receiver set to Sat, Sat STB is on playing a PVR recording which I can see/hear on the TV, DVD recorder set to record. What gets recorded is the radio!

I have tried swapping out both sets of cables between the Receiver and the DVD/VCR recorder thinking some wierd short was causing this phenomenon. No change. I have tried hooking the DVD/VCR recorder up through the VCR2 analog in/out - same thing.

My hypothesis is that this is an internal receiver fault. ANy thoughts?

Thanks

1) HDMI connections must terminate at an HDMI device. You can't convert the signal to analog. So you can't record from any of your HDMI devices.
2) You might have to use the same video connector types for input & output. i.e. composite to composite, s-video to s-video.
3) The receiver is probably routing the only active (or last selected) analogue sound source available to the speakers & vcr output since you are using analogue connectors.

Thanks, that makes sense.

The BEV9200 only has component & HDMI out, which in my case goes to the receiver, but I guess I can get the DVD/VCR recorder in the path to the BEV9200's 2nd TV by using the old coax through VCR method.

I appreciate your help & wish I would have thought of that.

Cheers

I thought the 9200 had a composite video out?

The choices for main (HD) TV appear to be HDMI & component. The choices for secondary TV (SD) appear to be RF and composite.

I currently use the RF for the secondary TV as its quite a distance and a coax cable pre-existed the 9200 instal. I tried using the composite output to be DVDR/VCR input in the hopes it wasn't an either/or thing. It works perfectly. The DVD recorder is recording the BEV output & I can monitor it using the VCR1 Rx input.

Summary for others in the same boat:
Main 9200 out = HDMI or composite = Rx Sat in
Secondary 9200 out = RF = remote SDTV in
Secondary 9200 out = composite = DVDR/VCR in
Rx Video out = HDMI = HDTV Video 1 in
DVDR/VCR out = S-Vid = Rx VCR1 in
Rx VCR1 in = not used

Clarification then. If the 9200 is used in single mode, rather than two TV mode, then the composite out can be used, as well as the options indicated above.

My secondary TV gets used VERY little so I haven't had much call to intimately understand the single/dual mode abilities & limitations. What I have it set to is single with "shared view". As the verbiage implies, this sends the same output to both TV's. I don't foresee ever wanting to simultaneously externally record a program & watch different feeds on the 2 TV's, so this is fine with me.

Having said that I don't really know how to answer your question because the composite output is used in the option described. Sorry
