To check the health of DNS queries, open a DOS window (run cmd.exe) and type nslookup www.costco.ca
Ok Tried that and only got a time out. I would appreciate some feedback from someone in the Unionville area who is also attempting to reach costco
Thanks

I can't get to the costco site either.
Another forum's members suggest it is related to a new Rogers IP range:
Assuming that your problem is related to the new IP #, then it is a temporary thing ... although it may take some time to work its way out.

I've only been assigned to the 99. IP range recently and I'm no longer able to access certain websites. Tech support person told me to use thedailyproxy.com in the meantime. Since the last reply to this thread was in May, I was wondering if anyone else have been having these issues. Is seems that Rogers is not really doing anything about this problem, or as they would say: "they are working on it."

In reference to my previous post in this thread, I can now access the costco.ca address with my 99.* IP...although I don't normally visit that web site so I don't know how long it has been accessible to me.
I am not currently having problems with any other web sites that I do normally visit.

I just looked on my D-Link, I have 0.0.0.0 in both my primary and secondary dns , should I have a number here?
on a side note - what exactly is the function of a DNS server?

I recently installed a new router and left the default DNS settings. For the last few days I Have been experiencing random problems with Gmail and firefox built in search function. When I typed Gmail.com in the URL field the DNS would not resolve. I just switched my DNS to the OpenDNS settings and everyhing is working fine now. What's going on that Rogers DNS is not working for google? Is this happening to anyone else? How many people would just assume the internet is down if they loaded thier browser and the beloved google page wouldn't load?

rogers dns is among the worst out there. do not use it if you care at all about performance.
get 'namebench', the free google app, to run a test from your home and see which available dns servers out there provide you with the best performance (speed and reliability) based on your location. it's quite simple to use, though dns-newbie might need to do some reading to learn what dns is and how to change dns settings on your computer and router.
