It is a port similar in spec to HDMI offered on some newer TVs and monitors. The video card I have is a Nvidia Quadro NVS450 with 4 DisplayPort outputs.

I'm trying to connect a computer with a DisplayPort output to a Panasonic plasma HDTV with VGA input. I also have a DisplayPort to DVI-D adapter but the HDTV does not have DVI input. Does anyone have an idea how best to connect these.

I don't know much about DisplayPort, but you probably will also need a DVI-D to HDMI adaptor. Since DVI doesn't transport audio, a better option might be to get a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter (if such a beast exists).

One other thing I noticed is according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort), "The video signal is not compatible with DVI or HDMI, but a DisplayPort connector can pass these signals through."

Hi folks. Sorry about the stupid newb question but i'm stumped here. I hope this is the proper forum.

I'm a Canadian living overseas and as such 99% of of what I watch is done via laptop. I have been using my HP v6000 hooked up by S-cable to my SDtv for the past few years.

I just bought a Samsung LN40A750 LCD 120Htz. My laptop is equipped with a GeForce 6150 video card (only 1024x768 res) with no HDMI slots.

My questions are:

Is it possible to still watch HD content with this video card using VGA cables?

If not can i throw together a skeleton tower with an upgraded video card and network the thing to my laptop (i dont want to buy a whole new laptop) and watch HD content that way?

Any help at all is greatly appreciated!

Hello all, first post here and I am in desperate need of help. I too have a similar problem as described by some here, one I have not experienced before with my old Toshiba laptop. I now have the Amilo Li 3910 which I successfully connected to my Pioneer 506 XDE on the first day. However, a few days ago I found I could not get the laptop to display anything on the tv via VGA anymore. I have tried all manner of resolutions within the laptop's display menu but nothing happens. When I use the tv out function on the laptop to output images to the TV screen, its screen goes 'off' but then nothing happens on the tv. I tried updating the drivers on the Fujitsu site but the laptop still won't output.

I have used other laptops on the TV before so I know the VGA cable works and the TV obviously has a VGA interface. Grateful for your help. To confirm, my tv has a VGA input; the laptop has a maximum resolution of 1680*945 (the TV will, admittedly, not display this in any case); I was able to make it work on the first day but can't remember what I have done wrong now:(.

It is most likely a software problem. You did not tell us which software player you are using. Often there is a problem with the software correctly using the nVidia PureVideo hardware acceleration. I would try disabling HW acceleration first. If possible, dowload a trial version of a different BD player.

On the off chance it is your BD player, check for a firmware update. I might also download an HD video to bypass your player.

And, of course, update your BIOS.

Good Luck!

I have a Dell Laptop which has a vga out port and 3 usb 2.0 ports. I have a 2 year old panasonic 50 inch plasma tv. I would like to get my laptop video to display on my tv.

The tv has no vga in port. It has a boatload of component, composite, s-video inputs and 2 hdmi inputs that I can use.

I would like to get something that either can convert the vga signal to hdmi(or component) or usb to hdmi( or component).

I did find something on monoprice that goes from usb to hdmi and its about $50 US + shipping. It uses the usb port for power and I think I can use the headset port to output sound to the device. There is duty on price of it and that is an unknown on how much that could be. This may be the route I take.

Looking for suggestions. Also wanting to do this inexpensively.

Thanks

USB will not work since it's not a video output. You could consider a VGA to HDMI or Component Video Transcoder.
