: Xbox 360 Defective and Replacement Process...
Drainc 2009-08-29, 09:19 AM Dropped it off on Friday at the UPS Store. Lady there said she saw 40 consoles that week. *sigh*
I was thinking of an arcade unit, but now I'm thinking of the elite bundle with the wireless and halo 3. Figure I could sell both and still have a nice black console that didn't cost much more than the arcade unit (given that it would have a 120 gig hd).
markl 2009-08-31, 05:57 AM Isn't that Elite bundle old stock? I've seen that mentioend in a few posts, old models that are more apt to get RROD.
Drainc 2009-08-31, 06:16 AM Yes, you are correct they are all old stock. I looked at Future Shop and Best Buy and all the consoles were Falcons, not Jaspers. So I picked up a pro console. Anyone want a 60 gig HD? :)
99semaj 2009-08-31, 11:43 AM ...but the Jaspers have been in production since last fall. Are there that many unsold X360's floating around in the sales channel?
It'll take an awful long time for the 30% RROD failure rate to go away if that's the case.
TorontoColin 2009-08-31, 01:25 PM Zephyr was 30%, Falcons are around 5% (Xenons were 60-something). Jaspers are somewhere around 2%.
IMO Falcons are still a reliable chipset and I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up, but that's just me.
Eluder 2009-08-31, 03:38 PM Ya, I had a falcon for over a year with no issues whatsoever, I wouldn't be too worried about it, the only advantage you get is that the Jasper is marginally quieter than the Falcon (which is already pretty quiet).
markl 2009-09-02, 06:54 AM They all semed to have failed equally for me, my last dead Elite was a Falcon I believe, no idea wha tthe refurb they sent back is.
Eluder 2009-09-02, 09:34 AM I guess you just had some bad luck...
Drainc 2009-09-03, 08:31 AM So I got my elite back yesterday. Summary - Shipped Friday, received the replacement Wednesday. Not a bad turnaround.
The replacement doesn't have a manufactured date on it, they replaced the sticker with one that says "service date"... Not sure how warranty now works on the replacement based on that. The replacement was indeed a Falcon unit, so lets hope it lasts longer than my last.
Note that the replacement process is all online now, you don't need to speak to anyone to replace your box. You just register your console on xbox.com and then initiate the return process from there. They send you an email with the link to a prepaid return form which you print out and then take to UPS. You have to box it up (I paid UPS $13 to do it) but other than that, no troubles.

James 2009-09-17, 05:51 PM I got my second RROD today,
I am just going to pick up an arcade , how do I know if its jasper or not? what should I look for?
callummcgraw 2009-09-17, 06:38 PM From Xbox-scene
best way to know if the xbox has a jasper is to look in the hole the xbox 360 box where the serial number is.
If it says 12v - 16A, then its a xenon or a zypher. If it says 12 - 14.4A, then its a falcon. If it says 12v - 11.1A, then its a jasper
The other way to know is the memory card is built in now instead of an external card, but you have to open the box for that.
Hope this helps. (google it and do a little more researching around just in case, this is only from one source)
James 2009-09-17, 09:08 PM Tx for that info...
I was under the assumption that this replacement unit was still under warranty. That really sucks, I haven't even had this 360 for 1 year.
douggyd 2009-09-20, 04:25 PM Have you phoned 1-800-4myxbox? I had my 4th RROD fixed for free even though it was out of warranty. Just be reasonable when talking to the first contact and try to get them to put you through to second level support... Mind you, that replacement died on me too and I went out and got a new arcade during the last not tax sale at RCSS, just to avoid the hassle.
romstah 2009-09-21, 10:09 PM standard warranty is 1 year, extended warranty (RROD) is 3 years. If it says it is expired they are talking about the standard warranty, you can still get your box fixed for free if its under 3 years.
I just sent mine recently, anyone sent in their non-HDMI box and get back one with HDMI?
BGY11 2009-09-25, 05:08 AM I had my first RRoD tonight.
After several freezes over the past few days, tonight it spit out E79. I removed the hard drive, and then I got the RRoD (and it does it every time I boot up now). The secondary code was 0102 (indicating a CPU/RAM/GPU issue).
Problem I have is that I did get the console used, and apparently the previous owner had registered it. Now I may be stuck having to buy an Arcade or something as I can't seem to register the console with Microsoft to have it repaired.
Drainc 2009-09-25, 07:58 AM Did you try calling?
BGY11 2009-09-25, 05:36 PM Called them up, and they cleared the original registration information. System's all ready to be sent back.
James 2009-09-26, 04:30 PM I just called them back, they are sending a replacement after they receive my RROD'ed one.
I have no idea why they rejected me on my first call. Oh well, tx to the feedback on this forum I am getting a replacement xbox!
