: Xbox 360 Defective and Replacement Process...
Presco 2007-09-13, 09:10 PM OK, that about settles it; I'll be picking up an elite this weekend. I'm a bit worried about my game saves and especially my live arcade games / DLC. My girlfriend loves to play a bunch of the arcade games on her own profile (offline profile only) and as I understand it, I'll only be able to play those games while signed in with my Gold Account. I know I can get a transfer cable from Microsoft but does anyone know of any places with lax return policies? I'm thinking of picking up an elite AND a 120GB hard drive (which comes with transfer cable), using the transfer cable to transfer all my stuff from the current red-lighted system, then returning the 120GB hard drive and cable. Where should I get the 120GB drive? Walmart maybe? Sorry if this is a bit off topic.
Big Bucket 2007-09-14, 12:57 PM Presco, I think I'm picking up an elite soon too. I was just going to order the transfer cable and use my old hard drive in the new machine til it came. This should be okay right? I think there is a number to call for the cable, which should make it quicker.
Seeing some complaints about FS extended warranties in this thread, how are other places like EB, or even Wal-Mart if they have one?
Presco 2007-09-14, 01:40 PM Big Bucket, you can definitely go that route. I've been thinking it over and I'll probably do the same. I guess I just wanted to get the transfer done sooner rather than later. I'd assume there would be a bit of a wait to receive the cable from MS. From my understanding, Walmart will let you return just about anything. So if I picked up the 120GB hard drive just for the transfer cable, I'd be able to return it without too much hassle. Not sure if it's worth the risk cause that damn hard drive is expensive on its own and I don't want to be stuck with it.
entropy05 2007-09-15, 07:09 PM Hmmm...just checked the service site out and there's a different serial number listed for my console, and it is now listed as being "In warranty". No official notification yet, and the site says to expect it to be down periodically for the week (maintenance), but maybe I will be getting a system back soon. Hopefully one with HDMI (crosses fingers) :D
Big Bucket 2007-09-17, 02:10 AM Mine changed Friday too. Shipping took six days to get there from Saskatoon, so hopefully I will have it back by the 24th. Now I might hold off on the Elite.
When MS ships out refurbs, do they include tracking info on the service site? There wasn't any listed on Friday, but I thought it might not have shipped yet.
Woohoo ... FS called me on Friday to tell me that I'm getting a brand new 360. Came with Forza (already had it but sold it to EB for $25) and Tony Hawk. Too bad it doesnt have HDMI though :P
entropy05 2007-09-17, 07:52 PM Got mine back today--7-16-07 build date, so it is most likely a new console. No HDMI, though. Still haven't received notification that they're sending it to me, though(???).

Man, I was hoping all of the newer models would have HDMI. Maybe it's not quite new enough? Anyways, I still have yet to receive my coffin...I did, however, pick up my new Elite on the weekend.
entropy, whats the deal with the warranty on your new system? I'm assuming 90ish days.
It took me 4 days to get the coffin after I called M$, then 13 more days to get a replacement box. It was not my original box, but a replacement - with an older build date. Regardless, this one works, so I'm ok with it.
Just waiting for my H3 to be delivered next week.
BTW, my 360 issue was a bit non-specific. It randomly froze, which would sometimes lead to 3 red rings of death. I'm actually glad they sent me a refurb rather than mis-diagnosing my box which might have left me with the same re-occurring issue.

I didn't notice any warranty specific info in the box, just an apologetic form letter, instructions on resyncing my controller, and a survey.
My new console is amazingly quiet, too. I'm talking a night and day difference from my previous (launch) system.
Edit: from the xbox.ca service page - Warranty Expiration: 12/13/2007 6:59:59 PM
dukee 2007-09-20, 09:24 AM I'm still waiting for mine.
It's been three months since my unit died and I first called them.
Angry does not even begin to describe my feelings towards Microsoft.
redskull 2007-09-20, 09:40 AM I'm just wondering if other people have detected a potential issue with the new service website (up and running as of last night). My console was received in the service center on September 18. It is now September 20 and it is showing "No pending repair" when yesterday it said that the device was waiting to be received in the service center. I realize that no pending repair means that the device is fixed, but a turnaround time of only 2 business days may be too much to hope for. Also, the serial number didn't change.
Can all of you in the middle of a repair check the site to see what it says. It's a little scary to see that they may have totally lost my repair request and lost my console and I left with nothing.
entropy05 2007-09-20, 11:58 AM It occasionally said that about mine too, but then would change back on a later visit.

Have you tried calling them? That sucks....
dukee 2007-09-20, 03:44 PM I've called them a dozen times since my unit first died.
Everytime I've phoned I get someone in India that wouldn't even be able to find Canada on a map, let alone the Ontario repair depot.
The prewritten response that they read off of their computer screens is "two to three weeks".
DSgamby 2007-09-20, 04:40 PM Everytime I've phoned I get someone in India that wouldn't even be able to find Canada on a map, let alone the Ontario repair depot. If they didn't have an accent, they could be American. lol
Big Bucket 2007-09-21, 12:04 AM Well, got my refurb today, dated May 28 2006. The first time I powered it up it didn't start. Hopefully it lasts a while.
August 10: MS ships box
August 15: I receive it and send it out
August 21: MS receives it
September 21: My refurb arrives.
entropy05 2007-09-21, 08:51 AM A refurb? That also sucks--I don't think I would've been as placated with my repair if that's what they sent me....
DSgamby 2007-09-21, 04:10 PM you do know that most places including computer, if they can't fix it the piece, that they send a refurb.
dukee 2007-09-21, 04:28 PM Looks like a package arrived at my house today. I'm assuming it's my XBox.
What a frustrating ordeal. I'm not looking forward to it breaking down again.
