If you could get either receiver for the same money what would you chose?

My set-up is a Pioneer 5070, DVD running HDMI and Shaw HD PVR running HDMI.

The Arcam 350 has more power, HDMI switching
The HK has Faroujda upconversion for my Shaw HD PVR but only 1080i capabilities.

Your help and feedback is much appreciated.

Arcam, hands down, no question. Absolutely phenominal receiver, just about as close as you can get to purchasing seperates. My next choices would be the Rotel RSX-1057 or RSX-1067.

Agree 100%. The 350 is also the best for 2 channel sound of any AVR on the market

Has anyone heard AVR300 and AVR350? Are there really noticable difference in sound quality? If there isn't, I rather much buy demo AVR300 in a store and save some money (possibley buy 2 channel power amp for 2 front speakers).

Are there really noticable difference in sound quality?

This will depend on the quality of the rest of your components. Take them both home and return one.

You must consider the break-in periods for the components more than just taking it home, trying it out and returning the other one.

The question is: "Do you hear a difference between the 350 and the 300 when played on better speakers, CD player etc than you have at home?"

I am surmizing from your posts here and on other forums that either unit would be the best component in your system. Either model will get the best out of some very expensive great sounding speakers + input devices.

So if you are planning on using the unt for a long time, you should pick the model that you will be happiest with if/when you make future upgrades. The law of diminshing returns comes into play. There is a bigger sound difference between a $1400 AVR and the 300 than there is between the 300 and 350.

Hello,
Any suggestions what is a good Arcam dealer at GTA area? How much should I expect to pay for the 350?

Thanks

MSRP is CAD$2,995 for the 350, though I'm sure the dealer will offer for less.. I'm also interested in what others have paid for the 300 and 350. :)

There are actually quite a few dealers in the GTA. You can goto their website and get a listing but a few that I know are:

Audio One - Steeles in Woodbridge
Trutone in Mississauga
Ovation Audio in Aurora
Whitby Audio Video (guess where they are)

You can of course do better than the list price.

AVR350 all the way. It is awesome.

This totally depends on your speakers. If your speakers are not "audiophile" grade speakers then AVR-350 will not be an effective solution as you will not hear all the details that AVR-350 outputs to your speakers. However, AVR350 is the best A/V receiver when wired with nice audiophile grade speakers.
