Right now, the antenna is close to my TV (horrible looking!) I think the reception is okay, but still a bit fragile so I would like to know if using a DB-8 antennas would give me a better signal than my DB-4?

What is your exact location in La Prairie?

For sure the gain on DB-8 is bigger compared to DB-4, so your reception should be more stable.
I did not try a DB-8 at my place, I had only a CM4221 (not HD). Anyway with a DB-8 there are small chances to get WVNY, from what I read here on forum. You should add also a Yagi for channel 13 if you want to have WVNY.

Regarding the reflector, in case you remove it, this has might lower the gain of the antenna. I do not think it would recommended.

The SBGH w/ narods is built. I just chucked it outside onto a snow bank without aiming it and scanned. Picked up everything 70-98%, including CBS at 92%); Dint get WVNY (0%) though; what I dont understand is if I type 22.1, Im getting CBS whereas my in laws get ABC on 22.1.

ABC is on channel VHF 13, they are remapping it 22.1 ( virtual )
CBS is on UHF 22, virtual 3.1

WVNY is "remapped" -- it really lives on Channel 13, but the TV shows you it's on Channel 22.
Because your TV can't pick up "virtual" Channel 22, it's showing what it finds on the "real" Channel 22 -- which is WCAX.

I used Google Earth in my case. Also a second SBGH would increase the antenna gain with more chances to get WVNY. What about WFFF, do you receive any signal? The channel has also a low level signal, in case you get it you should receive also WVNY.

I can get WFFF @ 65% without aiming, one aimed right, the signal capped at 85% yet 13.1 remains at 0-40% up and down.

Im going to try to work some more on it tonight or Sunday..

Cheers, K!

For English stations, you should be able to get analog CBC on 5 and analog Global on 20.
French 2 "V", 4 TVA, 11 SRC analog, 12 SRC digital, 15 TQ analog.

If you're away from a window on the northeast side, Global may come in snowy.

Are CBC and Global from Montreal? What about the french CBC/SRC? Are there any local Quebec City feeds?

These are all local Quebec City transmitters. CBC, Global, and TeleQuebec are all relays of the corresponding Montreal stations. SRC and TVA are Quebec City stations, but probably the only non-network programming is the local news. V is nominally a Quebec City station, but I don't think V stations have news, so the only thing local is probably the commercials.

TeleQuebec should be in digital soon, and I think TVA has also applied for a digital transitional station in Quebec City, too.

Montreal is 150 miles away, so you can't get any Montreal stations OTA in Quebec. (And the only English Montreal station you're missing is CTV, which ,coming from St John's, I guess you're used to :-). But unlike St John's, CTV is available on cable.[/B]

I wasn't asking if they were transmitted from Montreal, I was just wondering if there was a local CBC and Global in Quebec City (as in CBC Montreal vs CBC Quebec City), it's not on satellite but that doesn't mean much ;)

CTV is available on cable in Newfoundland... it's not local, but you can get a feed from Toronto (?) I think... don't have cable.

No, both are now relays of the Montreal stations. CKMI (Global) was originally a CBC affiliate with a very small amount of local content, and some syndicated content. It was eventually bought out by GLobal, and continued nominally as a Quebec City regional station, with repeaters in Shgerbrooke and Montreal. As of this past Fall, it is now officially a Montreal station with repeaters in Quebec City and Sherbrooke, and all local content (such as it is) is from Montreal. CBC Quebec is a straight relay of CBC Montreal, AFAIK.

I thought that CTV wasn't on basic cable in NL, so that's why CTV put the Olympics Coverage on A Atlantic.

I don't see any CTV on basic cable without a box in St John's -- just the CTV News Channel.

I don't know about Rogers old analog cable in St. John's but back in the Persona days when I lived out in the middle of nowhere, we got CTV Edmonton (no idea why Edmonton) on basic cable. I think there was a second CTV station as well, as well as CTV Newsnet.

It used to be. Now it carries mostly Global progamming, including Global National. In order for CTV to maintain a news source in Newfoundland, NTV still shows Canada AM and the CTV National News. This info is from the CJON-TV wikipedia entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CJON-TV#2002_to_present).

Hi everyone,

I took the OTA plunge this weekend. So far, I'm very impressed.

I have a 8-bay multi-directional (UHF only) mounted on the root with a CM 7777. I'm able to pull in everything except for ABC (22.1), and I understand there are challenges with pulling this in, but in reading the forums I'm a little confused as to what is the cause. Is it because:

1) It's a VHF channel, therefore need a VHF antenna mounted? If so, any recommendations on an antenna to compliment the 8-Bay? I would just need to plug into the CM 7777 "VHF only" input connector.

OR

2) It's a weak signal and therefore difficult to capture? If so, any recommendations with this?

In Montreal, IMPOSSIBLE to find such an antenna, The Source sells a Terk but it costs $80, as much as an OUT DOOR antenna! If that doesn't work a roof mounted one will have to be the only way to go.

I know that Raybell sells or sold the Channel Master indoor antenna, I think it's like the Zenith.

I don't know the price.

1) You need a VHF-hi Antenna at least, plugged into the VHF input and you put the switch inside the CM7777 to separate the two inputs.

2) I have a channel 13 VHF antenna ( Delhi 10y13s) but they don't make it anymore and almost it's impossible to find in the used market. The Options are to make your our clone 10y13s ( see the antenna research section) or your purchase a Winegard YA-1713 at Raybell

Application by the TVA Group Inc. (TVA) to amend the broadcasting licence for the television programming undertaking CHLT-TV Sherbrooke to add a digital transmitter (post-transition).
The transmitter would operate on channel 7 with an average effective radiated power (ERP) of 2,369 watts (maximum ERP of 4,000 watts with an effective height of antenna above average terrain of 588.1 metres).

According to a map included in the technical brief, the digital urban contour (56 dBu) is limited by the cities of Farnham; Rougemont; St-Hyacinthe; just south of Drummondville; Kingsey Falls; and East Angus/Cookshire; it then follows the U.S. border with Maine and Vermont. The noise-limited bounding contour (36 dBu) is limited by Hemmingford; St-Rémi; the St. Lawrence River from Candiac to around Nicolet; Daveluyville; Disraeli, Lake Mégantic; and then encompasses parts of northern Maine and Vermont.

I 'm in Chateauguay at Smith and Maple. If it's the wind ,I can take it off the pole and mount it on my roof where the wind should'nt move it anymore.
Hi Waynes world I am also in chateauguay near Parkview. I had a hard time last summer with my 4 bay getting anything. Its mounted on my roof but I think its not high enough as there are alot of big trees around my house.

Can anyone tell me what direction is best for me to point antenna? towards mount-royal ? or south ?
